Meet Marie Recine

We recently connected with Marie Recine and have shared our conversation below.

Marie, so excited to have you with us today. So much we can chat about, but one of the questions we are most interested in is how you have managed to keep your creativity alive.

Taking time to get in the correct mindset is important. When I begin to feel uncreative, instead of feeling bad about myself or my talents, I think “what CAN I do to change this?” I usually start by decluttering and organizing my spaces to get rid of feelings of overwhelm. I will also make sure to take time to be inspired. It could be going on a hike, jumping in the ocean, going to an art museum, or exploring the city. Also, picking up new hobbies or learning a new skill will help give you fresh ideas and perspective!

Thanks for sharing that. So, before we get any further into our conversation, can you tell our readers a bit about yourself and what you’re working on?

I studied apparel design in college at Oregon State and got a job as a swimsuit designer, which brought me to the LA area. I then dove into the world of resin, doing everything from making art from salvaged surfboards, to preserving wedding bouquets, to making home decor products. I’ve been making resin art full time for a year now and have recently expanded into wholesale and showing in galleries, which has been really exciting. I have also started teaching art classes at local breweries where people can make their own resin art!

My next venture is heading back to the design world. I have always been inspired by travel and different cultures, and I am launching a lifestyle brand that encompasses that. There you find unique global recipes, travel tips, and products sourced from small businesses and artisans around the world! I’m really excited to start my new brand, Roam & Revel!

If you had to pick three qualities that are most important to develop, which three would you say matter most?

I think that as artists and designers we can get really excited about new ideas and that leads us to getting stretched too thin. So, learning how to focus! It sounds simple but I struggle with scaling back and honing in, instead of trying to do everything.

Another quality would be being unapologetic. When you tell people what you do, you have to say it with conviction! Make people believe in your talents and ideas just by being confident.

And finally, I would say being open to different opportunities and willing to pivot. You never know what connection is going to lead to something big or transform you in a new way.

I learned these skills from trying and failing, and podcasts. 🙂 There are so many good podcasts out there, so find a host you connect with and learn from them!

How can folks who want to work with you connect?

I am always looking for new people to collaborate with! Right now, I am looking for venues and galleries to host some of my art pieces as well as people interested in being a part of my new brand (either in promotion, collaboration, mini-capsules etc.)

You can email me at [email protected] for these opportunities or if you have any other ideas!
