We recently connected with Marie Sy and have shared our conversation below.
Alright, so we’re so thrilled to have Marie with us today – welcome and maybe we can jump right into it with a question about one of your qualities that we most admire. How did you develop your work ethic? Where do you think you get it from?
My work ethic comes from my professional journey before entering the beauty industry. I first worked as a paralegal in a law firm, where I learned the importance of organization, discipline, and attention to detail. In that environment, precision, confidentiality, and responsibility are essential, and that experience shaped the way I approach my work to this day.
I later trained and worked as an accountant, a field that further strengthened my discipline, consistency, and respect for structure. Accounting teaches you that there is no room for approximation—everything must be accurate, controlled, and accountable.
I’ve carried these foundations into my path as an entrepreneur in the beauty industry. For me, beauty goes far beyond aesthetics; it’s about professionalism, rigor, and excellence. The work ethic I developed in law and finance is what allows me to build a structured, reliable, and purpose-driven business today.

Let’s take a small detour – maybe you can share a bit about yourself before we dive back into some of the other questions we had for you?
My journey is rooted in both structure and creativity. In the beauty industry, I specialize in professional makeup, beauty education, and high-end services designed for women who value excellence, confidence, and professionalism. What excites me most about my work is that it goes far beyond aesthetics. Beauty, for me, is about precision, preparation, and intention. Every look, every service, and every training I offer is built on structure, technique, and a deep respect for the craft.
Education is at the heart of my brand. I have invested heavily in continuous training and professional development, both locally and internationally, to refine my skills and stay aligned with global standards. I also focus on empowering others—whether through beauty education, mentorship, or professional services. Professionally, my current focus is on expanding my brand through elevated services, education, and strategic growth within the beauty industry. Whether through new services, collaborations, or educational initiatives, my goal is to continue redefining what professionalism looks like in beauty.

If you had to pick three qualities that are most important to develop, which three would you say matter most?
First is discipline. Discipline is what creates consistency, and consistency is what builds credibility over time.
Second is continuous education. The beauty industry evolves constantly, and staying relevant requires ongoing learning.
Third is integrity and professionalism. How you work matters just as much as what you produce. Being reliable, ethical, and respectful builds trust, and trust opens doors that talent alone cannot.
To anyone starting out, understand that success is not overnight. Build discipline, stay committed to learning, and lead with integrity. These foundations will carry you further than trends ever will.

All the wisdom you’ve shared today is sincerely appreciated. Before we go, can you tell us about the main challenge you are currently facing?
The number one challenge I face currently is navigating the pace and mentality of business life in Senegal. Compared to some of the international environments I’ve worked in, things here often move slower, and decision-making can require more patience and persistence. It can be challenging when you’re accustomed to a highly structured, fast-paced workflow, but it’s also taught me a lot about adaptability and resilience.
To overcome this, I focus on patience, strategic planning, and clear communication. I make sure to set realistic timelines, build strong relationships, and find ways to influence outcomes without forcing them.
