We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Marie Valencia a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Marie, so excited to have you with us today. So much we can chat about, but one of the questions we are most interested in is how you have managed to keep your creativity alive.
Celebrating 11+ years of being a Full-time Artist,Muse & Creator I have learned that you have to constantly reinvent yourself.As life changes have come,I have found the ups and downs to be some of the most pivotal moments for me as an Artist, creatively.I thrive and am inspired most,when I feel comfortable to go through my own process and carefully plan out each detail.
I never get bored, especially as a Mixed Media Artist.I embrace,certain moments when I’m more inspired to say create Collagework than paint.I allow myself,to genuinely show up in the moment and get to work on what feels good.
Let’s take a small detour – maybe you can share a bit about yourself before we dive back into some of the other questions we had for you?
My small business,Mystic Herbs Shop was founded in 2014 and still proudly running out of Las Vegas,NV.I am grateful,to have the freedom to showcase multiple talents as Tarot Reader and Artist at the same time,especially at pop-up shops.
I am passionate about supporting Local Businesses,other Artists and Non-Profits.It means a lot to me,when I can co-create opportunities for myself and others.The support has meant the world (I say that a lot but genuinely mean that I appreciate connecting with folks who get the Vibe.)
Creating handmade jewelry,painting or offering Tarot Readings there is a forever fire in me to learn more,evolve and leave the World with memorable pieces created from my very Hands.
There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?
1.Pay attention to what successful folks are doing and how they are doing it.(Self-education is super important to me and while not everything works for everyone,I love to take in valuable lessons from folks who are even more evolved in similar pursuits.)
2.That being said,Go your own Way.Listen and Learn but only you know what is best for you and don’t be afraid of expressing that in various ways.
3.”Closed mouths don’t get fed,” This affirmation has stuck with me for years and honestly so many doors have been opened than shut over the years for me..Anytime I feel a bit fearful,I remember it’s worse in my opinion to not try at all or speak up.
How can folks who want to work with you connect?
I would love to collaborate with other Local Small Business (including: Restaurants,Bars, Coffee Shop and Wellness spaces) for special events,art workshops and public art mural opportunities/collaborations.
