Hi Mariela , thank you for being such a positive, uplifting person. We’ve noticed that so many of the successful folks we’ve had the good fortune of connecting with have high levels of optimism and so we’d love to hear about your optimism and where you think it comes from.
My optimism stems from a combination of life experiences and a personal commitment to positive thinking. Overcoming challenges has reinforced my belief in positive outcomes, even in the face of adversity. I practice a philosophy guided by curiosity, conveying gratitude, and connection, which I call the way of the ‘7 C’s.’ This approach helps me and others see the good in situations and in people. I’ve been fortunate to be surrounded by supportive individuals, such as family members and friends, who have strengthened my faith in humanity and the power of positivity. Since childhood, I’ve been driven to help and uplift others, believing firmly in the potential for growth and transformation in everyone. This altruistic inclination contributes to my optimistic outlook, as assisting others often creates a positive feedback loop, enhancing my worldview. Additionally, self-awareness plays a crucial role in my optimism. Reflecting on my experiences, learning from them, and sharing these insights help me maintain a positive perspective. My optimism is thus a blend of experiences, a deep-seated belief in humanity’s potential, the nurturing relationships I’ve enjoyed, and a personal ethos that values human capacity for good.

Let’s take a small detour – maybe you can share a bit about yourself before we dive back into some of the other questions we had for you?
I am Mariela Romero, a figure deeply immersed in broadcasting, communication, and advocacy. My journey is not just about building a career; it’s a story of creating meaningful connections and fostering growth within communities, especially within the vibrant tapestry of the Latino culture. My career spans over three decades in broadcasting, during which I’ve had the honor of receiving 27 Emmy Awards. These accolades reflect my commitment to excellence and innovation in creating unique content. But more than awards, my career is about my impact on personal development and business leadership, both in the United States and Latin America.
Recognizing the need for culturally relevant communications, I founded Inclusive Communications. This venture is more than a business; it’s a mission to make content accessible and resonant for diverse audiences. It’s about breaking barriers and building bridges in a world that often feels fragmented.
My work extends beyond the realm of broadcasting. I am deeply involved in community service, participating in boards and organizations that make a tangible difference. The Latin American Conference for Transformation, which I founded in 2021, is a testament to my dedication. It offers Hispanic professionals tools for personal development, leadership, and entrepreneurship.
My multicultural upbringing in Venezuela, France, Mexico, and Argentina has been a cornerstone of my success. It’s not just about speaking multiple languages; it’s about understanding and appreciating diverse perspectives. This background has significantly influenced my work and enabled me to connect authentically with the U.S. Latino community.
Looking ahead, I am excited about releasing my first book in April 2024. This book will unveil my unique 7Cs methodology, which I have been implementing with domestic and international companies. It’s not just a method; it’s about creating magic in life and business.
Personally, I draw immense pride and inspiration from my family. My son, Mateo, a High School valedictorian and a Full Sail University graduate, reminds me daily of the power of dedication and the importance of nurturing the next generation.
My work is a blend of communication, advocacy, and cultural diversity. From honoring civil rights pioneers, like Xernona Clayton with a statuette in Atlanta, to shaping the narrative in broadcasting, every step has been about making a difference. I am grateful for this journey and excited to continue making an impact, one human being at a time.

Looking back, what do you think were the three qualities, skills, or areas of knowledge that were most impactful in your journey? What advice do you have for folks who are early in their journey in terms of how they can best develop or improve on these?
1st is my ability to remain optimistic and resilient in the face of challenges. It has been a cornerstone of my success. This combination has enabled me to navigate through difficult times and emerge stronger. My advice is to cultivate resilience by embracing challenges as opportunities for growth. The best thing you can do is practice positive thinking and surround yourself with supportive people. Reflect on past difficulties and recognize the strengths you gained from them. Mindfulness and stress management techniques can also bolster resilience.

2nd is my skill in communication and building connections. It has not only enhanced my personal relationships but has also been crucial in my professional success. Being able to articulate my thoughts clearly and connect with others on a deeper level has undoubtedly opened many doors. Improve your communication skills through active listening, empathy, and clear expression. Engage in diverse social settings to practice and learn. Reading extensively and attending workshops or courses on communication can also be beneficial. To build connections, be genuinely interested in others, seek common ground, and be open and authentic in your interactions.

3rd, my innate curiosity and commitment to learning have kept me adaptable and forward-thinking. This thirst for knowledge and understanding has allowed me to grow personally and professionally. You can foster curiosity by exploring new subjects, asking questions, and seeking new experiences. Embrace a ‘growth mindset,’ where you view skills and intelligence as qualities that can be developed. Engage in lifelong learning – attend courses, read widely, and be open to new ideas and perspectives.

Resilience helps you weather the storms, effective communication, and connection open doors and build networks, and curiosity drives continuous improvement and adaptation.
