We were lucky to catch up with Mariela Salas recently and have shared our conversation below.
Hi Mariela , appreciate you sitting with us today to share your wisdom with our readers. So, let’s start with resilience – where do you get your resilience from?
My resilience comes from my faith in God. In this industry, there are ups and downs, slow seasons, or moments where self-doubt creeps in but I’ve learned to lean on Him for strength and direction. I truly believe He placed this business in my heart for a reason, and when things get tough, I remind myself that I’m not doing it alone. Prayer, Scripture, and trusting His timing keep me going, and it’s that faith that helps me push forward with joy and purpose.

Appreciate the insights and wisdom. Before we dig deeper and ask you about the skills that matter and more, maybe you can tell our readers about yourself?
My name is Mariela and I am a faith based esthetician and certified medical assistant offering facials, lash extensions, and body waxing, with each service thoughtfully tailored to my clients’ unique needs and desires. My goal is for every person who walks through my door to leave not only looking more radiant, but also feeling deeply cared for, valued, and loved.
With my medical background, I’m able to blend clinical knowledge with the art of esthetics bringing together the precision and safety of healthcare with the relaxation and beauty of spa treatments. I believe beauty is more than skin deep it’s about nurturing both the outer appearance and the inner spirit.
I often say, “God gifted me these hands,” and I truly see my work as a calling to serve others with excellence, compassion, and grace. Whether it’s creating a peaceful, results driven facial experience or enhancing natural beauty with lashes, I want every client to feel seen, celebrated, and confident in the way God made them.

Looking back, what do you think were the three qualities, skills, or areas of knowledge that were most impactful in your journey? What advice do you have for folks who are early in their journey in terms of how they can best develop or improve on these?
Looking back, the three qualities that have shaped my journey the most are faith, compassion, and a commitment to lifelong learning. My faith anchors me and reminds me that my work is a calling to serve others. Compassion allows me to connect with each client on a personal level, making them feel valued, seen, and cared for. And my commitment to continuous learning has helped me grow in both the medical and esthetics fields, blending them to create safe, effective, and personalized experiences.
For those just starting out, I encourage you to stay teachable, lead with kindness, and hold tightly to your values. Technical skills will come with practice, but your integrity, empathy, and willingness to learn will be the foundation of a fulfilling career.

Before we go, any advice you can share with people who are feeling overwhelmed?
When I feel overwhelmed, I turn to God and prayer. Taking a moment to pause, reflect, and lay my worries before Him helps me find clarity and peace. I also try to step back, breathe deeply, and focus on one task at a time, trusting that He will guide me through. My advice to others is to lean on your faith, give yourself grace, and remember that it’s okay to slow down—sometimes the best way to move forward is to trust the process.
