We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Marijana Camovic Schwarte. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Marijana below.
Hi Marijana, thanks for sharing your insights with our community today. Part of your success, no doubt, is due to your work ethic and so we’d love if you could open up about where you got your work ethic from?
My work ethic is a culmination of diverse experiences acquired throughout my 20-year career in the corporate world, spanning multiple cultures and continents. A pivotal moment that shaped my work ethic was during a business trip to Japan, where I encountered the concept of “kaizen.” I was amazed by the workers’ dedication to continuous improvement and their deep commitment to their work. This inspired me to adopt a similar mindset.
Another memorable experience was in Tibet, where I learned the value of mindfulness and living in the present moment. This spiritual perspective enriched my approach to work, teaching me to focus on the tasks at hand with greater clarity and calmness.
In addition to the lessons from Japan and Tibet, I also embraced qualities like the Germans’ punctuality and precision and the Indians’ perseverance and resilience. Over time, my work ethic evolved into a unique blend of these cultural values and best practices, enabling me to grow professionally and as an individual. In essence, my work ethic reflects the rich and diverse experiences I have had working with people across the globe, constantly striving to learn and improve.
Great, so let’s take a few minutes and cover your story. What should folks know about you and what you do?
As the Chief Dreams Officer at Hera + Hermes, I ensure our kids boutique epitomizes our motto: FASHION. FORWARD.FUN. By inspiring fun, color, and excitement for our tiny clients aged 0-6, we strive to always stay ahead in the world of children’s fashion.
Before creating this wonderland, I was a world-renowned unicorn trainer, which taught me the importance of nurturing dreams and imagination. I’ve brought that knowledge to our Miami-based boutique, creating a whimsical wonderland filled with vibrant, creative garments and exclusive enchanted accessories.
Our customer service team, made up of expert Fairy Godmothers and Godfathers, ensures every child’s dreams come true while keeping the experience fashionable, forward, and fun.
At Hera + Hermes, we’re not just selling clothes – we’re creating unforgettable experiences and celebrating the magic of childhood. Though my unicorn training days are behind me, spreading happiness through fashion and living up to our motto is an equally magical adventure.
There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?
Looking back, the three qualities, skills, or areas of knowledge that were most impactful in my journey are:
1) Creativity and Integrity: Embracing creativity allowed me to think outside the box, develop unique ideas, and ultimately transform Hera + Hermes into the whimsical wonderland it is today. Meanwhile, integrity ensured that I stayed true to our mission and values, building a strong foundation for the brand. To develop creativity, don’t be afraid to experiment, take risks, and learn from failures. To strengthen integrity, always act ethically, be honest, and stay accountable for your actions.
2) Empathy: Understanding the needs, dreams, and desires of our tiny clients and their parents has been essential for creating a memorable and engaging experience at our boutique. To improve empathy, practice active listening and put yourself in others’ shoes to better understand their perspectives.
3 )Adaptability: In the fast-paced world of fashion, adapting to new trends and changes in the industry has been crucial. To develop adaptability, stay curious, be open to change, and continuously educate yourself about the latest developments in your field.
For those early in their journey, my advice would be:
1) Give yourself the freedom to explore new ideas. You never know when a seemingly wild idea might be the next big thing. Additionally, maintain your integrity to build trust and credibility in your personal and professional life.
2) Prioritize understanding your target audience. This will help you create products and experiences that truly resonate with them.
3) Never stop learning. The world is constantly changing, and the more you can keep up with it, the better equipped you’ll be to navigate the challenges that come your way.
By focusing on developing these three qualities, you’ll be well on your way to achieving success in your journey, whatever path it may take.
Alright so to wrap up, who deserves credit for helping you overcome challenges or build some of the essential skills you’ve needed?
My husband has been instrumental in helping me overcome challenges and develop the essential skills for success. He has been my rock, my constant source of support and encouragement throughout every step of the way.
His unwavering support, belief in my abilities, and resourcefulness have given me the confidence to face difficulties and grow both personally and professionally. His encouragement has motivated me to push through obstacles and achieve my goals. Without him, I wouldn’t be where I am today, and I’m truly grateful for being his wife.
