Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Marin Guta. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Marin, we’re thrilled to have you sharing your thoughts and lessons with our community. So, for folks who are at a stage in their life or career where they are trying to be more resilient, can you share where you get your resilience from?
I draw my resilience from my faith and my upbringing. Not everything came naturally to me, but I learned early on that with determination, discipline, and hard work, I could achieve whatever I set my mind to. In school, that meant putting in long hours of studying to reach the goals I had for myself. I came to understand that even if something didn’t come easily, I could overcome it through effort and perseverance.
Great, so let’s take a few minutes and cover your story. What should folks know about you and what you do?
I work in marketing and creative strategy for my alma mater, Mercer University, where I have the unique privilege of helping tell the story of a place that shaped me so deeply. My journey into this field actually began as a journalism student at Mercer during a study abroad trip to Vietnam, I discovered a deep love for visual storytelling. There was something incredibly moving about capturing real people and real moments, and I’ve been chasing that feeling ever since.
At my core, I love connecting with people and sharing their stories that’s truly my favorite thing. Whether it’s through a campaign, a photo, or a piece of video content, I’m always thinking about how to make something resonate and feel human. I’ve found that strategy and storytelling go hand-in-hand, and I love crafting creative approaches that make a message stick.
I also freelance through my photography business, specializing in weddings and lifestyle sessions. It’s been exciting to watch it grow over the years, and I’m currently working on launching new offerings later this year that are designed to better serve small events and families.
Ultimately, everything I do comes back to connection creating it, celebrating it, and sharing it.
If you had to pick three qualities that are most important to develop, which three would you say matter most?
Looking back, my journalism background played a big role in shaping how I approach storytelling. It taught me the basics and gave me the confidence to connect with people through their stories. I’ve also learned the value of staying curious and adaptable. For anyone just starting, my advice is straightforward: keep practicing, remain open to learning, and take advantage of all the available resources, from YouTube to podcasts to online courses.
How can folks who want to work with you connect?
Yes! I’d love to collaborate with other creatives. I truly admire how each style of photography has something unique and beautiful to offer. Lately, I’ve been especially drawn to editorial-style work. I think it can be tough to pose people in a way that feels elevated without looking too forced, but I’ve seen so many photographers do it so well. It’s super inspiring, and I’d love the chance to learn from and work with people who shoot in that style.
