Meet Mario Medina

We were lucky to catch up with Mario Medina recently and have shared our conversation below.

Hi Mario, appreciate you sitting with us today. Maybe we can start with a topic that we care deeply about because it’s something we’ve found really sets folks apart and can make all the difference in whether someone reaches their goals. Self discipline seems to have an outsized impact on how someone’s life plays out and so we’d love to hear about how you developed yours?

“Since childhood, I have never considered anything impossible as long as I had the desire to achieve it. I was born into a very poor family in the Dominican Republic, but I always knew I would accomplish great things regardless of my circumstances. I left my hometown to pursue my education and aspirations, and today, I find myself in another country, striving to achieve my dreams.”

Thanks, so before we move on maybe you can share a bit more about yourself?

Here’s your biography in the first person:

I am Arritmia Creciente, a Dominican artist and actor who has been dedicated to my craft from a young age. Born into a humble family, I moved to another city at the age of 13 to pursue a better education. This journey led me to a larger city, where I attended university and laid the foundation for my artistic career.

I began my professional career in the Dominican Republic, participating in homemade films that showcased my talent as an actor. My passion for storytelling and performance naturally extended to music, and about a year ago, I moved to the United States to further explore my musical aspirations. Now, I focus on creating pop reggaeton in Spanish, blending my Dominican roots with contemporary sounds.

At 22, I am actively pursuing opportunities in both acting and music. I continue to participate in castings and other projects, aiming to make a significant impact in both industries. My work is a celebration of resilience, diversity, and the rich cultural heritage of the Caribbean, brought to life with the energy and creativity of New York City.

If you had to pick three qualities that are most important to develop, which three would you say matter most?

I believe that the most impactful quality in my journey, and one that will continue to influence my future, is my ability to trust in myself and my own abilities. From a young age, I had a clear vision of pursuing my dreams in the United States. This self-belief was instrumental in motivating me to learn English on my own, without seeking external help. My internal drive and determination to achieve my goals enabled me to overcome challenges and acquire new skills.

My advice to others is never stop dreaming. Dreams serve as the motivation to get up each day and keep striving, ensuring that you are living with purpose rather than merely existing. Maintaining a strong sense of purpose and passion will provide the drive needed to pursue and realize your aspirations.

Is there a particular challenge you are currently facing?

One of the greatest challenges I am currently facing is being in a completely new country where I do not have any family, as they remain in my home country. I am here pursuing my dreams, and the primary sources of my current struggles are the distance from my loved ones, my desire to achieve greatness to support them, and my aspirations. These factors are my major sources of motivation, enabling me to confront the reality of being alone in a foreign land. The love for my family and the drive to fulfill my dreams are what sustain me and give me the strength to persevere despite the distance and solitude.

In addition to these challenges, I have found support through the friendships I’ve built here. I am grateful to have made very good friends and, thanks to them, I have found a second family in the Appell family. Their presence and support have been invaluable in helping me navigate this new chapter of my life and continue pursuing my dreams. Their companionship and encouragement are crucial in making me feel more at home and less alone in this foreign land.
