Meet Mariposa

We recently connected with Mariposa and have shared our conversation below.

Hi Mariposa, you’ve got such an interesting story, but before we jump into that, let’s first talk about a topic near and dear to us – generosity. We think success, happiness and wellbeing depends on authentic generosity and empathy and so we’d love to hear about how you become such a generous person – where do you think your generosity comes from?
My generosity comes from my innate desire to see change in the world in the form of restoration of basic humanity. We are living in a time of polarization of people along racial lines, political party lines, gender lines etc. We also live in the so-called ‘cancel culture’. These are stressors to the basic humanity that I believe should exist but aren’t always apparent.

I learned that there are 7 types of generosity: Thoughts, words, money, time, things, influence, and attention.
As one person amid the billions of people here on earth, although I can’t change everything or change the minds of all people, I can make an impact in my sphere of influence. I offer generosity through random acts of kindness, volunteering in the community, donating to college scholarships and giving of my time and attention to the elderly. If I can bring intermittent or lasting joy to someone – that is more than a sufficient reward for my efforts.

Imagine if we could create a vortex of generosity, and that became a daily focus instead of the pervasive negativity. Oh what a world this could be. My generosity truly comes wanting to see people have the ability to lead better and more fulfilling lives.

Thanks for sharing that. So, before we get any further into our conversation, can you tell our readers a bit about yourself and what you’re working on?
30 Minute Podcast of which I am the co-host is on haitus for a bit so currently I am focusing on episodes of my new podcast Your Travel Aspirations; the podcast about places we have been, the destinations we long to visit and the wanderlust for more. We take the listeners on a journey of discovery all while encouraging others to join the journey. I have been traveling to various countries to gather information to share on air – so please tune in! We are on all major platforms.

Travel started as a leisure activity for me but quickly became part of my life’s purpose. It is integral to me feeling alive – not only in the moment but also for me to have hope for my future. There’s an entire world out here to explore! Planning to see as much of it as I can.

My co-host Robin (from Don’t Look Under the Bed podcast) and I will begin curating group trips soon. This will enable our friends and listeners alike to experience their own excursions and pursue their Travel Aspirations, as well.

There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?
The most impactful 3 skills on my journey are:

– Tenacity
– Organization
– Connecting

I am known as ‘the connector’. I enjoy meeting people and learning about their stores, which is another reason why this is such a great forum! Through connecting we can collaborate with others so you aren’t in it alone. You never know who could help solve an issue for you until you have the conversation.

Organization is key for me because I tend to take on a lot of projects however, there definitely is an aspect of being over scheduled and spreading yourself too thin. So I organize with lists, assigning time frames and dollar values to projects which helps me prioritize. Best advice I can give there is being BUSY and being PRODUCTIVE aren’t always one in the same!

Tenacity for me is innate. I have the drive to succeed after growing up in Atlanta and being around so many successful individuals in various fields. That type of exposure is truly a gift and I don’t take it for granted. I have to keep going because the ground work was laid for me to be a success, by my parents, mentors, etc. It take true grit to be follow your dreams but intended to finish the drill!

Thanks so much for sharing all these insights with us today. Before we go, is there a book that’s played in important role in your development?
– The Game of Life and How to Play It – by Florence Scovel Shinn is a book that has had a profound effect on my life. Written around 1925, it remains relevant today and is consistently a best seller.

One of the main nuggets of the book is that the human imagination and training of the mind is a key to life.

There are SO many more nuggets in the book – too many to list. I encourage all to read this book! You won’t be disappointed.
