Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Marisol Quintana. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Marisol, looking forward to learning from your journey. You’ve got an amazing story and before we dive into that, let’s start with an important building block. Where do you get your work ethic from?
I get my work ethic from my Father. José Quintana, was a great businessman and always educated us in his ways of carrying out our work and conducting business. In essence, he taught us to work hard and carry out ethically sound business.
Thanks, so before we move on maybe you can share a bit more about yourself?
I always dreamt of starting my business and opening an Authentic Homemade Mexican Food Truck Restaurant. I have always been passionate about cooking and having contact with people. My first hurdle was securing a funding source to start the business. After planning for it, I secured the funds and began executing my plan. I then began all the work to open “Buenos Sabores” a fixed-location food trailer restaurant in Austin TX, My primary focus is to ensure the genuineness of the food we serve and the personal service we provide.
“Buenos Sabores” connects with our community by providing a product and service that is highly sought after. People in Austin TX are fond of authentic homemade-style Mexican food and local, family-owned, mom-and-pop types of businesses. A place where they can enjoy great high-quality food, vegan and vegetarian options included, and where they receive personalized service as well. This is exactly what I hoped to achieve and what we provide today.
Looking back, what do you think were the three qualities, skills, or areas of knowledge that were most impactful in your journey? What advice do you have for folks who are early in their journey in terms of how they can best develop or improve on these?
Cooking
Leadership
Being a people person
What is the number one obstacle or challenge you are currently facing and what are you doing to try to resolve or overcome this challenge?
The number one challenge my business is currently facing is growing our business/sales. In a small business, labor costs are high. To grow we can be open for more hours which implies hiring more people or generating more sales during the existing working hours. We are focused on creating more sales with the same labor force during the existing working hours. To achieve this objective, we are looking for more online delivery platforms and contacting local corporate/business offices to cater to them. In time, we are working towards expanding the business.
