We recently connected with Marissa Fisk and have shared our conversation below.
Marissa , we’re thrilled to have you on our platform and we think there is so much folks can learn from you and your story. Something that matters deeply to us is living a life and leading a career filled with purpose and so let’s start by chatting about how you found your purpose.
I found my purpose by following my passions, hobbies, and heart.
Thanks, so before we move on maybe you can share a bit more about yourself?
I am a chef, baker, artist, food stylist, and writer.
I have owned my catering company
Marissa Fisk Catering for over 7 years. This is my second catering company. I previously owned and operated a full service catering company and farmers market in Los Angeles CA. I worked for celebrities and the entertainment industry.
I am currently in Austin Texas. We offer full service catering, food styling, meal prep, charcuterie, family meals, picnic boxes, elegant family style platters, gift baskets, baked goods, jams, sauces and more. We source local ingredients and organic when possible. Everything is cooked in a slow batch method.
I am most excited about sharing my passion of cooking through my food art. I share that mostly on IG. I love bringing food to life through colors and seasons. Everything has a purpose. Intentional food created with love and passion.
I really enjoy creating recipes and food styling as well cooking and baking.
I am focused on business, art, and loving what I do while being a role model for my young girls. I enjoy getting to contribute to my family financially & helping my loving husband support our kids.
If you had to pick three qualities that are most important to develop, which three would you say matter most?
Three skills/qualities that were most impactful was to learn how to cook well by working for so many clients. The hands on skills I learned established me. Repetition was key in my success and also never giving up on myself or quitting especially when things got challenging. The last most important component was continuing my education and being open to learning new ways and styles of health and cooking. Being flexible and never rigid.
Before we go, maybe you can tell us a bit about your parents and what you feel was the most impactful thing they did for you?
The most impactful thing my parents did was showing me owning your business is the best way to earn money as an artist. It give you creative control and doesn’t place a cap on your earning potential. I love working for myself and with clients versus taking a job. Jobs can be necessary when learning your skills and trades but you are always answering to someone else. For me being a business owner allows you the freedom of being creative and expressing yourself fully as an artist.
