Meet Marissa Olberding

We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Marissa Olberding. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Marissa below.

Marissa, we’re thrilled to have you on our platform and we think there is so much folks can learn from you and your story. Something that matters deeply to us is living a life and leading a career filled with purpose and so let’s start by chatting about how you found your purpose.

Finding your purpose can be about aligning your passions with your work. As the Director of Marketing for Golf Ranch and Blue Jeans Golf, I get to blend my passions of creativity and golf into a career that not only promotes a cool company but also makes the sport of golf more accessible and fun for everyone. It’s about using my skills to create a vibrant community and memorable experiences for people who are just starting to pick up the game as well as golf enthusiasts. By driving innovative marketing strategies and engaging campaigns, not only do we elevate the brand, but we also inspire others to discover the joy and camaraderie of golf. I know my role is pivotal in shaping the way people perceive and experience the sport, making it a rewarding journey both personally and professionally.

Let’s take a small detour – maybe you can share a bit about yourself before we dive back into some of the other questions we had for you?

As the Director of Marketing for Golf Ranch / Blue Jeans Golf, I spearhead creative marketing strategies that highlight our unique blend of cutting-edge technology and laid-back vibes. I promote engaging events, innovative golf experiences, and our Ranch Pass subscription that make our driving range a go-to destination for both seasoned golfers and newcomers. By crafting engaging campaigns and leveraging a multitude of marketing tactics – including my favorite, social media – I ensure our brand resonates with a wide audience, fostering a vibrant community around the joy of golf.

The most exciting aspect of my role is the opportunity to revolutionize how people experience golf. The blend of innovation and a relaxed atmosphere sets us apart and keeps our customers coming back for more.

There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?

1. Continuous Learning – marketing is an ever-changing field, and so being able to stay on trend and learn the nuances of the field, is key to improving as a leader in the business.

2. Communication (and honestly over communication) – when working with multiple teams, venues, and people, it is imperative to be able to communicate effectively. Learning the different styles of communication of others is very important to me and something I have valued in my career and as a manager.

3. Data Analysis – data is SO important in marketing and understanding that as a key principle early on and shaping your decisions and strategy based who your superconsumers (or your 5%) is vital to your business’ success.

Before we go, any advice you can share with people who are feeling overwhelmed?

When feeling overwhelmed, it’s important to take a step back and regroup. Here are some strategies I use to help manage the stress:

1. Prioritize Tasks: Break down your workload into manageable pieces and prioritize tasks based on urgency and importance. Focus on one thing at a time to avoid feeling scattered.

2. Delegate: If possible, delegate tasks to team members. Trusting others with responsibilities can lighten your load and provide them with growth opportunities. Trust being the key word here!

3. Reach Out for Support: Don’t hesitate to ask for help from colleagues or seek advice from mentors. I’ve learned talking things through with a co-worker and voicing concerns to my boss has helped my mental health and really made me a stronger leader.

4. Practice Self-Care: Ensure you’re getting enough sleep, eating well, and incorporating physical activity into your routine. I know we hear it all the time, but for me, getting some sort of exercise in during the work week, helps my mood drastically!
