Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Marissa Price. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Hi Marissa, we’re so appreciative of you taking the time to share your nuggets of wisdom with our community. One of the topics we think is most important for folks looking to level up their lives is building up their self-confidence and self-esteem. Can you share how you developed your confidence?
Art has played a huge role in helping to develop my confidence and self-esteem. I have always been an avid reader (I thank my Mom for introducing me to books at a young age), and my self-image was bolstered as a child by reading about others who looked like me and whose life stories I could relate to. Music has been a consistent anchor throughout my life as well. Whenever I have a day when things feel ‘off’ and my confidence is lacking, I can always turn to music to uplift me and remind me of who I am and from whom I descend. I recently started writing again (I have a book of affirmations titled COCOON: Affirmations for Transformation), which has also been a way for me to reclaim the parts of myself that I lost along the way to adulthood. Art has been a sustaining force on my journey of self-confidence, and I’m so grateful for its impact.

Thanks, so before we move on maybe you can share a bit more about yourself?
I am an Intuitive Healer, meaning I use my spiritual gifts and academic training as a social worker to help my clients reclaim their power and heal from past traumas. I specifically work with Black women because due to the effects of intersectional oppression, there are particular issues we face that have created lasting emotional wounds. Creating safe spaces where Black women can openly share their experiences without judgment is crucial to my healing practice. I also provide business coaching and consulting to help my clients undertake entrepreneurship intentionally to connect with their dream clients while navigating deeper issues like self-doubt and the fear of taking up space. I enjoy working with my clients to assist in their holistic expansion. I am in the process of launching a new website and creating a new coaching offering for 2025, but please feel free to join my email list here: https://mpricemsw.kit.com/

If you had to pick three qualities that are most important to develop, which three would you say matter most?
The three qualities that have been the most impactful in my journey have been integrity, gratitude, and courage. Integrity is vital to me. I tend to make most of my major life decisions by first asking myself: is this decision in integrity with my values? Gratitude has kept me rooted in times when things feel completely up in the air. I make it a point to remind myself how many incredible things have happened to me that I never could have envisioned for myself. I am immensely grateful to be in the place I am in now, and I take none of it for granted. Courage propels me forward even when I am fearful or doubtful of my abilities. I know that because I am courageous, I will always have the ability to go after my dreams and pivot when I feel called to.
I think the advice I would give to folks who are early in their journey to developing these three qualities would be to (1) define your life values and make your decisions based on how well that person, place, or thing aligns with those values; (2) make a running list of things you are grateful for and return to this list whenever you feel lost or uncertain; and (3) do not be afraid to make bold moves that put you closer to the life that keeps calling out to you. Know that you have everything within you to build a life that you truly enjoy.

Is there a particular challenge you are currently facing?
Fully believing in and trusting myself is the biggest challenge I am currently facing. As a new entrepreneur, I have realized that there is no guidebook to tell you what to expect on this journey, or how to embrace all of yourself to attract your dream clients. I am in the season of really tuning into what I already know, reconnecting with the younger versions of myself, and relearning who the authentic version of ‘me’ really is. If you are a recovering people pleaser, you know how difficult it can be to hear and heed your own voice sometimes, and that is what I am learning to do now. I am beginning to trust that the answers I have been seeking can already be found within.
