Meet Maritza Yoes

We were lucky to catch up with Maritza Yoes recently and have shared our conversation below.

Maritza, so great to have you with us and we want to jump right into a really important question. In recent years, it’s become so clear that we’re living through a time where so many folks are lacking self-confidence and self-esteem. So, we’d love to hear about your journey and how you developed your self-confidence and self-esteem.
I grew up needing to be my own advocate. In a small town where arts and culture was pretty much non existent. When you have to create your own world of creativity around you you become a lot more resilient to the naysayers.

Thanks for sharing that. So, before we get any further into our conversation, can you tell our readers a bit about yourself and what you’re working on?
I started at UCLA at a playwrighting student at the school of theater film and television. When I was at UCLA I got roped into going to a meeting for the student board for a museum called “The Hammer” it was a contemporary art museum that was affiliated with my college but that no one outside of art students knew about. I got heavily involved in spearheading their marketing and that was pretty much my path into marketing. I went from writing stories and making theater pieces to building cultural stories for an institution. I had a lot of fun with it, experimenting with technology and social media to build worlds around brands. I threw large scale events at the museum. I’d host get togethers where artists would meet folks from other disciplines, filmmakers, writers, etc. They were launchpads for experimenting, for creating culture.

Since then I’ve gone onto work in house for some very cool big brands including Tesla, Apple and Playboy. Most recently I started my own consulting firm, which I call an anti-agency. I get hired to do everything from large-scale branding projects or creative revamps to special projects, films, events, etc. If you want some special something-something or a cultural moment or reset for your brand, I’m your lady.

If you had to pick three qualities that are most important to develop, which three would you say matter most?
Honestly curiosity. I just wanted to know things. I wanted to be around interesting people places and things and connect to culture.

I always tell people constantly find your muses, they don’t even have to be people necessarily it can be ideas places things, but inspiration is a great motivating drive and wanting to be a part of something or connect to a world if out of the motivation to change it or make it cooler is really fun and inspiring

Okay, so before we go we always love to ask if you are looking for folks to partner or collaborate with?
Yes, I want to learn from people I want to partner with people. I want to meet other creatives other people who feel differently. Who are making success on their own terms.

Writers, movie makers, scientists, technologists.. etc anyone who has a problem to solve I want to help.
