We recently connected with Mark Anthony A.k.a T-Gunna and have shared our conversation below.
Mark Anthony , we’ve been so fortunate to work with so many incredible folks and one common thread we have seen is that those who have built amazing lives for themselves are also often the folks who are most generous. Where do you think your generosity comes from?
My generosity definitely comes from my mother. She barely had enough for herself day to day month to month but you couldn’t tell at all. She gave when she had it and she gave when she didn’t and that’s why I’ve always loved her. She showed up for people even when they didn’t for her which made me want to do everything for her while she was here.
Let’s take a small detour – maybe you can share a bit about yourself before we dive back into some of the other questions we had for you?
At this current time I’m definitely focused on healing and self love. I’ve been on a massive healing journey since that awful year of 2021 and it’s been refreshing needless to say. Losing so many people from family and friends the way I did was truly traumatizing and I knew what I needed to do from there. I needed to do the work. I needed to be in healed spaces and environments around people who are full of love and light. It doesn’t matter where you’re from or how tough you are etc do the work. My brand my image my artistry nowadays reflects this entirely. When I rap I showcase just how aware I am of today’s society from past to present tense.
Looking back, what do you think were the three qualities, skills, or areas of knowledge that were most impactful in your journey? What advice do you have for folks who are early in their journey in terms of how they can best develop or improve on these?
My self concept and how I viewed myself. Knowing who and what I am and where I come from continues to motivate me daily to where I’m headed.
My heart I’m definitely giving and I care a lot about everyone around me. I want everyone to be the best versions of themselves.
My mindset is to always be understanding. I want to know why things are the way they are and why? People tend to confide in me because of this quality. I’ve lived so much and so very fast.
Before we go, maybe you can tell us a bit about your parents and what you feel was the most impactful thing they did for you?
They let me be myself! My mother especially. She wanted me to always shoot for the stars especially when she heard me rap. She wanted me on TV screens across the world. She was able to see me on TV and in movies but I wish she was still here to see this next chapter ahead. My father was a hustler he knew how to get it and I definitely got my hustling ambition from him. I’m not satisfied with the bare minimum I want the best every time.
