Meet Mark Casper

Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Mark Casper. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.

Mark, thanks for taking the time to share your lessons with our community today. So, let’s jump right in – one of the most essential skills for unlocking our potential is self-discipline. Where does your self-discipline come from?

This is a great question and very difficult to answer. I believe my discipline came from my playing sports at an early age and failing at certain times. I can remember I was trying out for the all star baseball team and was cut because, honestly, I didn’t try. I thought I was a shoe-in! That downfall brought me back to reality and I had to try harder than I ever had before to bring myself back to the level I believed I was.

Thanks, so before we move on maybe you can share a bit more about yourself?

I run a nonprofit that provides 4 programs: 1) Guaranteed data destruction for all data devices 2) Education in person and online for Veterans across the USA 3) Aiming For Zero Suicide Prevention Program 4) Responsibly recycling e-waste – over 800 tons in 10 years!

There is a lot going on at T4T – our 10th Anniversary is this year! YAY! We are part of the first in Virginia ImmerseCon – gaming, robotics, STEM and board games event on June 22-23, our 10th Anniversary bash at our facility in Richmond on Saturday July 20th and our Proud to Be an American Golf Tournament on Monday, Sept 9th!!

A lot more but it’s new exciting and not available for public consumption but stay tuned!!

There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?

Another great question three qualities/skills/areas of knowledge
1) Skills – my tech background has allowed me and propelled me into spaces and places I never thought I’d go. Learning so much about IT that it seems I was given three lives to live!
2) Quality – Thanks to my training and wife’s support, I’ve been blessed with the ability to “connect dots” others don’t see. Far reaching dots where others look at me like I’m crazy but as I explain my ideas, they agree and “see” what I see.
3) Quality – The United States Marine Corps instilled a determination in me that others don’t understand. The “mind over matter” mentality is real and true. I’ve been able to push through situations that others wonder what makes me tick. I’m humbled by their praise but know that If not me, then who – so I keep forging on.

How can folks who want to work with you connect?

Our goal has been to expand across America so we can support more Veterans and their families.
The perfect partner is one who understands and agrees with the Mission, is willing to support our efforts financially, physically and introducing us to others who might want to be a art of something bigger than self.
Another characteristic of a good partner is one who challenges me to strive to be better and support more Veterans. This would include challenging me and my vision for T4T – how are we going to get there, why this way and not that way, and other ways to challenge.
