Meet Mark Jones

We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Mark Jones. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Mark below.

Mark, we’re thrilled to have you sharing your thoughts and lessons with our community. So, for folks who are at a stage in their life or career where they are trying to be more resilient, can you share where you get your resilience from?

I get my work ethic and resilience from my grandmother and my mom.

Growing up, with my grandmother and my mom, I had great examples. My grandmother worked as a supervisor at a state school in Louisiana for special needs children. Seeing this and the love and care he put in with the students taught me to love and accept everyone. My mom was a superwoman, as a mom of 3 boys, my mother worked tirelessly to provide as an ER admissions representative. This often meant working many times over your standard 40 hours. My mom even continued to do this after being diagnosed with MS and her illness progressing. Watching this not only instilled in me drive, dedication, perseverance, and resilience but also what it takes to be not just a good parent but a great parent. When she became a grandmother, even though she was ill, she still not only continued to be there for myself and my two younger brothers, but my children as well. Without her love, care, support, and example, I would not have succeeded in college, became successful in my career, or above all be the father I am today.

Thanks for sharing that. So, before we get any further into our conversation, can you tell our readers a bit about yourself and what you’re working on?

I’m originally from Louisiana and moved to Dallas in 2019 for better career opportunities. Once in Texas I was approached via LinkedIn to apply for a mortgage loan originator role. I applied for my license, studied for the test, passed with flying colors, and the rest is history. I love what I do and being able to help people’s dreams of homeownership come true.

I am a mortgage loan officer, and my business name is Mortgage with Mark.

I do residential and commercial loans for individual buyers and investors. I specialize in VA loans, first time homebuyers, and hard to close loans such as those for the self-employed.

What sets me apart from other loan officers is my dedication to the realtors and buyers I serve. I don’t do this just for a paycheck. I genuinely want to see everyone that wants a place of their own obtain one and I will do all I can to help them achieve that goal. I am also honest and transparent and if it is not the right time for someone to buy because it may put them in a bad situation financially, I will let them know that as well. I consider myself an adviser and partner to the realtors and buyers I work with and want them to win in all aspects.

Brand wise, I am most proud of my work ethic and the relationships I cultivate. I am also very big on community involvement and attend various community events. To that extent, I am a member of various organizations such as National Association of Hispanic Real Estate Professionals (NAHREP) and Asian Real Estate Association of America (AREAA).

What I want readers to know about my brand is that whether you are a realtor or a buyer, I am here for you and will be there from application to closing, I believe in educating realtors and buyers, so they make the best decisions. I feel that an educated buyer is an empowered buyer, and I want all of those who work with me to feel like they gained more than just a loan office but also a friend in the home buying process.

There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?

I feel that it’s my drive, ambition, determination, and love of helping others that got me to where I am today.

In the beginning, as a fresh new loan officer it was definitely a learning experience. To help overcome the obstacles I learned everything even the processors’ role so that I would know the process from beginning to end. This not only helped me overcome the challenges but also better service my clients.

The best advice I have for folks early in their journey is to have faith, don’t give up, don’t compare your journey to someone else’s, and have a heart for people in everything you do.

Alright so to wrap up, who deserves credit for helping you overcome challenges or build some of the essential skills you’ve needed?

I would not say it has been a person that has been most helpful in helping me overcome challenges and build and develop the essential skills, qualities, or knowledge I needed to become successful, it was my life experiences.

I started working full time at 16 years old to help my mom as she was a single mom and I was the oldest of three boys. Staring work that early and being responsible for helping my family, helped me to develop an excellent work ethic, exceptional people skills, a heart for helping others, and the knowledge, drive, ambition, and determination to be successful.
