Meet Mark Wilson

We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Mark Wilson a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.

Hi Mark, appreciate you sitting with us today to share your wisdom with our readers. So, let’s start with resilience – where do you get your resilience from?
I get my resilience from my family. Everyone in my family makes it happen everyday. If they can do it I can do it. We all hold that mantra.

Great, so let’s take a few minutes and cover your story. What should folks know about you and what you do?
I’m Mark Anthony Wilson Jr, an Afro-futurist sculptor and installation artist. My masquerades honor Black American heritage, currently inspired by Black militant duties. How can we use these examples to inform us of future systems of response? Can we retell the stories of the heroes in our own context? My mission is to inform, educate, and radicalize the mass majority.

Looking back, what do you think were the three qualities, skills, or areas of knowledge that were most impactful in your journey? What advice do you have for folks who are early in their journey in terms of how they can best develop or improve on these?
Being humble, patience, and knowing your worth.

You are lucky to be here. Remember that you can stay grounded.

Everything is always on time, never go outside your body.

Don’t be low hanging fruit.

Alright so to wrap up, who deserves credit for helping you overcome challenges or build some of the essential skills you’ve needed?
My family!!!
