Hi Marketa, thank you so much for agreeing to open up about a sensitive and personal topic like being fired or laid-off. Unfortunately, there has been a rise in layoffs recently and so your insight and experience with overcoming being let go is relevant to so many in the community.

I was only able to come through and cope through Faith. My faith is still tested daily. I worked at my place of employment for 10 years. It was a loss that I had to grieve. FOr the last 3 y3ars it became toxic and my health started being affected. God gave me Security is Kee and showed me many things but fear still lurked. I felt in my spirit it was going to happen and the day before I got fired , I removed all of my personal belongings from the office. That Friday Morning by 8:15 am I was fired. It was a sense of anger , fear and sadness for a moment but then a sense of peace came over me. I went back to the doctor a few weeks later and the first thing my doctor said to me was WOW YOU LOOK GREAT, WHAT AREYOU DOING? I told her I lost my job. She said I am sorry to hear that but you look great and your blood pressure is awesome. This firing allowed me to put all my time and energy into my business with no distractions. Do I have days of doubt? Absolutely. But I just refocus and keep moving forward.

Thanks for sharing that. So, before we get any further into our conversation, can you tell our readers a bit about yourself and what you’re working on?

I love my new business. I have sold several items before such as Mary Kay, Tracy Lynn and Pink Zebra but this business Security is Kee is my baby. I have started this business from the bottom up. I have had to research the products I wanted to sell, searched for the best vendors ( not the cheapest, but the best), creating websites on my own, marketing my product, etc. The best part is having something to pass to my grandchildren. I love trying to make sure every person is able t protect themselves if needed. My products are discreet and pretty.

I am always looking for events to be a part of and introducing my product to everyone, My next event I will be a vendor is in March and that will be the Ladies of Zeta Phi Beta. But always open for other opportunities. I am currently located at the Marketplace in downtown Akron, in the back , but working on a bigger space closer to the front of the store or a stand-alone building that is accessible for all people

Looking back, what do you think were the three qualities, skills, or areas of knowledge that were most impactful in your journey? What advice do you have for folks who are early in their journey in terms of how they can best develop or improve on these?

FAITH, CONSISITENCY, AND HAD WORK. You have to believe you can do it even when it gets hard. You have to stay consistent even when you’re tired. Be open to learn. Sometime the way you think it will happen will not work at all, you have to be flexible and durable..

How can folks who want to work with you connect?

I am not sure that I am looking for a partner as much as I am looking for a successful mentor. I am looking for someone that has started a business from the ground up using their own funds but now has the knowledge of grants, marketing, advertising, branding, real estate, profitability.
