Meet Marketa Jefferson

We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Marketa Jefferson a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.

Marketa, thanks so much for taking the time to share your insights and lessons with us today. We’re particularly interested in hearing about how you became such a resilient person. Where do you get your resilience from?

It comes from my experiences – from facing challenges head-on and refusing to back down. I’m not afraid of what life throws at me. In fact, sometimes I think I seek out challenges, knowing that each one will teach me, shape me, and make me stronger. Every challenge I face, I say: “Bring it on.”
I don’t run from hard things – I face them head-on, not to prove anything to the world, but to prove to myself that I can do it. Every obstacle is a chance to learn, grow, and come out stronger on the other side. What doesn’t kill me? It fuels me.

Thanks, so before we move on maybe you can share a bit more about yourself?

I came to the USA when I was 18 years old from the Czech Republic – without speaking a word of English, just driven by a desire to explore what the world is about. I learned the language, adjusted to a completely different culture, and tried every possible job to pay the bills.
It was only about 10 years ago that I realized my love for animals was something more – something I wanted to turn into a business. I started as a groomer in an animal hospital and worked my way up to running my own business in 2018. Last year, I decided to add holistic pet care to my mobile grooming business and I now feel my mission is to help save one dog or cat at a time.
I coach pet parents how to feel confident about their dog’s healthstyle. Through Paws Balance – Holistic Pet Care, I guide pet parents in transitioning away from toxic products, poor diets, and quick fixes. I help them embrace natural remedies, balanced nutrition, and preventative care so their pets can live healthier, longer, and happier lives.
What excites me most is seeing the transformation – not just in the pets, but in the people. When pet parents feel empowered and confident in the choices they’re making, it creates this beautiful ripple effect of wellness in the entire household.
What’s special about Paws Balance is that it’s not just about avoiding illness – it’s about creating vitality. I give pet parents options so they can choose what works best for their pets and their lifestyle. I also help them save money by teaching them how to recognize when it’s time for a vet visit – and when it’s okay to pause, observe, and support their pets naturally.
At the heart of my brand is the belief that every pet deserves a life full of health, comfort, and joy – and that pet parents deserve to feel supported and confident on that journey.

Looking back, what do you think were the three qualities, skills, or areas of knowledge that were most impactful in your journey? What advice do you have for folks who are early in their journey in terms of how they can best develop or improve on these?

Looking back, I think the three qualities that were most impactful in my journey were:

Not giving up – Life threw a lot at me, from learning a new language and culture at 18, to figuring out how to survive as a single mom. My ability to keep going – even starting up over and over from zero when it was hard or things didn’t work out the first time – has been key. My advice? Don’t be afraid of failure. Every setback is a lesson that will make you stronger. Keep showing up for yourself, no matter what. It’s never to late to start over or learn something new.

Curiosity + Willingness to Learn – I never stopped asking questions, exploring new ideas, or trying different paths. Whether it was learning English, mastering grooming, or diving into holistic pet health, my curiosity opened doors I didn’t even know existed. My advice? Stay curious. Read, ask, try, experiment. The more you learn, the more confident and capable you’ll become.

Being positive + solution-focused – I’ve learned that complaining doesn’t change anything. When I have a problem, I focus on finding a solution instead of getting stuck in negativity. My advice? Stay positive, even when things get tough. If things get crazy, stop for a moment and tomorrow is another day for you to try again. Focus on what you can do, and take action. That mindset shift makes all the difference.

At the end of the day, it’s not about having everything figured out at the start. It’s about showing up, staying open to growth, and remembering your why. That’s what keeps you moving forward.

What’s been one of your main areas of growth this year?

My biggest area of growth in the last 12 months came from filming THE BLOX – TV reality Show and business bootcamp with Wes Bergmann. That experience pushed me out of my comfort zone, gave me clarity, and lit a fire under me. It gave me exactly what I needed to step into the next level and move toward the vision I’ve been building for myself and my business.
