Meet Marla

Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Marla. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.

Hi Marla, so happy to have you on the platform and I think our readers are in for a treat because you’ve got such an interesting story and so much insight and wisdom. So, let’s start with a topic that is relevant to everyone, regardless of industry etc. What do you do for self-care and how has it impacted you?

In between shows I rest, travel, enjoy quality time with friends and loved ones, and indulge in needed leisure time. These are not just nice things I do for myself, but are absolutely essential for my nervous system to relax, and to have proper time to get reinspired for the next project.

Great, so let’s take a few minutes and cover your story. What should folks know about you and what you do?

For over 22 years, Marla has coached and choreographed competitive dance teams across the U.S. and as far as India. Her voice took her on the road as lead singer with top tribute bands and performances across Spain and Italy.

Returning home, Marla became a fixture in Reno’s golden age of cabaret, gracing every major showroom in Reno/Tahoe for more than a decade. She now seeks to be the bridge from that historic time and revive the old Hollywood cabaret show in our community.

In 2021, she founded Paulina Productions as a way to thread her experiences: directing, producing, and choreographing immersive stage shows that celebrate live entertainment and performing art history.

If you had to pick three qualities that are most important to develop, which three would you say matter most?

1. Dance training. Growing up dancing in a studio and remaining dedicated to the art for well over 10,000 hours made me master certain aspects of this world. There was no way around investing in the hours in a studio with great teachers to develop this skill.

2. Getting on stage over and over again gave me professional experience and built my confidence in so many different aspects of being a part of a production show.

3. Leadership. Building teams and casts year after year takes time and consistency. Working in a niche industry in a small town for over twenty years gives me experience from so many angles, and gave me insight to what I would want to do differently.

Before we go, maybe you can tell us a bit about your parents and what you feel was the most impactful thing they did for you?

The most impactful thing my parents did was support me exploring the arts as a child. They encouraged me to sing, dance, play piano, take art lessons and explore my creativity. Having supportive parents in this realm led me to find my passions in the performing arts at an early age and be able to pursue it with dedication.
