Hi Marlon , thanks for sharing your insights with our community today. Part of your success, no doubt, is due to your work ethic and so we’d love if you could open up about where you got your work ethic from?
My work ethic stems directly from my mom, who raised me as a single parent. Her resilience and ability to manage countless challenges without ever skipping a beat deeply influenced my approach to work and life. Discipline, consistency, and attitude—these are the pillars she exemplified and instilled in me.
Discipline, to me, is about doing the tasks I might not necessarily want to do but knowing they’re essential for success. It’s about commitment and perseverance, even when the going gets tough.
Consistency is another critical aspect of my work ethic. My mom was the epitome of reliability. I learned from her the importance of being someone others can depend on—this has become a cornerstone of how I operate. Being consistent ensures that everyone, from investors to team members, trusts and relies on my decisions and leadership.
Attitude is the final piece. I’ve learned to face daily challenges with a positive outlook, embracing each as a chance to grow. It’s about not seeing myself as a victim of circumstances but as a proactive learner and leader. This mindset allows me to let go of fear and doubt, viewing every situation as an opportunity to advance and innovate.

As CEO of THC Design, I have the privilege of leading a talented and passionate team. There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?
Reflecting on my journey, three key qualities stand out as instrumental: adaptability, collaboration, and continuous learning. Adaptability has been crucial, especially transitioning from healthcare and biotech to the burgeoning cannabis industry. Embracing change and adapting strategies to new market conditions and regulatory environments have been pivotal to my success.
Collaboration is equally important. Working effectively with others isn’t just about sharing tasks; it’s about pooling diverse perspectives to innovate and solve problems more creatively. This synergy is not only enriching but also enhances the outcomes of our projects.
Continuous learning ties everything together. The landscape of any industry, especially one as dynamic as cannabis, is perpetually evolving. Staying informed and educated is key to leveraging your skills effectively and remaining competitive. This ongoing process of learning helps in identifying and refining where your strengths can best be applied.
For those early in their career, my advice is to actively seek opportunities to engage with others in your field. Offer help and be open to learning from every interaction. Building a network of strong, collaborative relationships can provide both support and opportunities. Additionally, commit to your personal and professional growth by staying curious and proactive about learning—whether through formal education, mentorship, or self-directed exploration of your interests and the needs of your industry. These strategies will not only enhance your skill set but also position you as a valuable contributor to any team.
Alright so to wrap up, who deserves credit for helping you overcome challenges or build some of the essential skills you’ve needed?
Throughout my career, I’ve always been driven and committed, which has garnered respect from my colleagues. However, there was a period when I felt somewhat stagnant, unable to see a clear path forward on my career ladder. Lacking mentors and the necessary social capital, I struggled to find new opportunities. It was my wife who played a pivotal role during this phase. She encouraged me to look at my strengths from a different angle, suggesting ways to leverage them that I hadn’t considered before. Her perspective was eye-opening and instrumental in boosting my confidence, ultimately enabling me to make strategic career moves to achieve my full potential.
