Meet Marlowe Boyd

We were lucky to catch up with Marlowe Boyd recently and have shared our conversation below.

Hi Marlowe, really happy you were able to join us today and we’re looking forward to sharing your story and insights with our readers. Let’s start with the heart of it all – purpose. How did you find your purpose?
The Crafted Pen, formerly known as Writing on Marlee’s Wall, has its humble origins traced back to the cozy confines of my living room couch at the tender age of twenty-two. Even from the doodles of a five-year-old to composing resumes in college, I’ve dedicated my entire life to honing the art of writing, and 10 years specializing in resume crafting and career coaching.

In those early days, there were no intricate systems in place, no assembled teams, and proficiency was still finding its foothold. However, the seed of The Crafted Pen was sown deep within me—a potent force fueled by the fervent desire to bring about meaningful change through my expertise. Amidst working a full-time job, being a mom, crafting resumes, and curating profiles, I also found myself serving as an on-demand inspiration, a beacon for those seeking guidance.

Possessing an intense passion for the art of literature, storytelling, creative writing, poetry, and spoken word, combined with overcoming adversities of life and this oversaturated job market, I understand how to navigate the challenges job seekers encounter every day. There’s no one else who’s a better fit to craft a life-changing career advancement than someone who’s lived and persevered through the mud – That someone is me, and as the Founder of The Crafted Pen, I am committed to your success. We shoot for the stars, prepared to land on the moon, delivering compelling results and an unforgettable, Crafted experience; one that makes a lasting impact on your future.

With over a decade of corporate and management expertise, I understand the professional landscape intimately. I gained an intense understanding of organizational pain points from the hiring manager’s perspective, equipping me with out-of-the-box strategies to set my customers apart.

Pain, frustration, financial hardship, surviving domestic violence, and persevering out of homelessness, consequences of poor decisions and broken workforce, were key factors that pushed me past my limits in this profession. I made a promise to help others avoid rock bottom like I did because it was a dark time in my life. Having been in the shoes of everyday people who are struggling to make ends meet, I offer not just expertise but a lived experience, persevering through challenges and paving pathways toward my own success.

The universe conspired to validate the idea that I held the power to transform and impact lives. This revelation marked the turning point, the catalyst that set everything into motion—the inception of The Crafted Pen. More than just a business, it was a realization, a commitment to the profound impact that well-crafted words can have on creating opportunities – The Crafted Pen emerged!

Appreciate the insights and wisdom. Before we dig deeper and ask you about the skills that matter and more, maybe you can tell our readers about yourself?

There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?
1.) Understanding the problem 2.) Understanding the problem
3.) Understanding the problem

– “Knowing is half the battle.”

This saying emphasizes the importance of awareness and knowledge. It suggests that understanding a situation or problem is a significant step toward overcoming it.

Imagine you’re in a challenging situation, whether it’s a personal struggle, a decision to make, or a problem to solve. When you gain knowledge about the situation, you’re already halfway toward finding a solution.

The idea is that once you’re aware of the issue, you can take informed actions to address it. Without awareness, you’d be stumbling in the dark, but with knowledge, you’re better equipped to tackle the problem.

– “When you know better, you do better.”

This emphasizes personal growth and improvement. It suggests that as we learn and gain insights, we naturally make better choices and can assist our customers more effectively.

Think of it as a continuous cycle: When you acquire new information, whether through education, experience, or reflection, you become more aware of what works and what doesn’t.

Armed with this knowledge, you adjust your actions, behaviors, and decisions. You strive to avoid repeating past mistakes and instead make more informed and positive choices.

Essentially, the more you learn, the more capable you become of doing better in various aspects of life—whether it’s relationships, work, health, or personal development.

Okay, so before we go we always love to ask if you are looking for folks to partner or collaborate with?
1.) Non-profit Agencies focused on Employment/Career Development to strengthen the financial stability of underprivileged families. We are dedicated to pouring into the community because community resources are what pulled me out of the toughest time in my life, battling homelessness.

2.) Government Career Development and Career Readiness agencies, as we are dedicated to educating job seekers with our highly insightful Webinars and Workshops. We want to partner with these agencies to boost success stories and transform the careers of those who may not know how to bridge the gap.

3.) Office Administration, Education, and Healthcare Staffing Agencies/Recruiters as these areas are our niche! We also specialize in career pivots, along with career advancements, so providing a one-stop-shop to set apart the best talent from the competition and significantly improve the chances of them landing interviews, and receiving job offers, will ultimately lead to revenue growth for staffing agencies that struggle to effectively align talent with open roles.

4.) Sponsors who support facilitate or support Career Advancement Events
