Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Marquita Clark. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Hi Marquita , so happy to have you on the platform and I think our readers are in for a treat because you’ve got such an interesting story and so much insight and wisdom. So, let’s start with a topic that is relevant to everyone, regardless of industry etc. What do you do for self-care and how has it impacted you?
For me, self-care is essential to staying grounded and effective in everything I do. I make time for activities that nourish my mind and body, like journaling, exercising, and setting boundaries to protect my energy. Prioritizing self-care allows me to show up fully for MAQ Mentoring, bringing patience, empathy, and a clear mind to support the girls I work with. Taking care of myself strengthens my ability to lead, inspire, and pour into others without feeling depleted, creating a ripple effect of positivity and balance throughout my work and personal life.
Great, so let’s take a few minutes and cover your story. What should folks know about you and what you do?
I’m Marquita, the founder of MAQ Mentoring, a nonprofit dedicated to empowering girls in 3rd to 8th grade by helping them build confidence, resilience, and essential life skills. Through our program, we guide young girls on a journey of self-discovery, teaching them about self-care, mental health, financial literacy, and personal growth.
What excites me most about MAQ Mentoring is watching the transformation that happens when girls realize their potential and step into their strength. Seeing them develop healthy habits, set goals, and believe in themselves is incredibly rewarding. We create a supportive space where they can learn, share, and grow — all while building lifelong connections with peers and mentors.
We’re excited to introduce MAQ Minis, a new program for girls ages 5-8, designed to start building confidence and emotional awareness at an early age. MAQ Minis focuses on foundational skills like emotional regulation, kindness, and self-expression through fun, age-appropriate activities and discussions.
My passion lies in equipping the next generation with the tools they need to thrive, and I’m excited to continue growing MAQ Mentoring to impact even more young lives. If you’re looking to get involved or know a young girl who could benefit from our program, I’d love to connect!
If you had to pick three qualities that are most important to develop, which three would you say matter most?
Looking back, three qualities that have been most impactful in my journey are resilience, empathy, and adaptability.
Resilience has helped me push through challenges and stay committed to my vision, even when things felt uncertain. For those starting out, I recommend building resilience by embracing failure as a learning experience. Every setback is a chance to grow and come back stronger.
Empathy has been key to connecting with the girls in MAQ Mentoring and truly understanding their needs. To cultivate empathy, actively listen to others without judgment. Put yourself in their shoes and try to see the world from their perspective — it will deepen your relationships and enhance your impact.
Adaptability has allowed me to evolve MAQ Mentoring as new opportunities and challenges arise. The ability to pivot, learn, and remain flexible is essential for growth. My advice is to stay curious and open-minded. The more you embrace change, the easier it becomes to navigate.
For anyone starting their journey, I encourage you to invest in personal development, seek out mentors, and give yourself grace. Progress takes time, and every step you take brings you closer to your purpose.
How can folks who want to work with you connect?
Yes, I’m always looking to partner and collaborate with individuals and organizations who are passionate about empowering young girls and building stronger communities. I’m especially interested in connecting with educators, mental health professionals, financial literacy experts, and local businesses who can offer workshops, resources, or mentorship opportunities for our girls — including our new MAQ Minis program for ages 5-8.
We also welcome volunteers who want to inspire and support the next generation through hands-on involvement in our events and programs. Whether you’re an artist, entrepreneur, or community leader, your unique skills and experiences can make a meaningful impact.
If you’re interested in collaborating or learning more, feel free to reach out! You can connect with me through our website, social media, or email — I’d love to explore how we can work together to help girls build confidence, resilience, and bright futures.
