We recently connected with Mars The Star Child and have shared our conversation below.
Mars , so great to have you with us and we want to jump right into a really important question. In recent years, it’s become so clear that we’re living through a time where so many folks are lacking self-confidence and self-esteem. So, we’d love to hear about your journey and how you developed your self-confidence and self-esteem.
A lot of people tell me I’m brave or think I’m full of confidence. My response? It’s not confidence—it’s just a lack of shame. I’ve never been able to please everyone with my choices, so I decided to make choices that build my life, not anyone else’s. I have a vision for myself and the world around me, and I encourage everyone to chase their own vision too.
Confidence is a war you can never truly win because it’s based on the opinions of others. Let go of that. Stop fighting. Just do you. Own a business, get your tits done, suck a dick.
Great, so let’s take a few minutes and cover your story. What should folks know about you and what you do?
I come from the woods. The deep woods. I call it the Deep South of the Northeast—a land of rednecks and country folk. And honestly, I wouldn’t change a thing about it. It’s where I first learned to connect with nature and spirit, something I encourage everyone to do. Maybe not in a socially turbulent environment, but somewhere you can shed the human helmet we all wear and truly tap into the energy of the earth. Let your vision expand. Broaden your perspective. Learning about yourself is the first step to understanding and holding space for others.
This connection to nature is a space I dream about often while living here in the city—a space between worlds, where dreams blur into reality. Many of the stories born from these dreams are fueling my upcoming musical project. I’m thrilled to be collaborating with King 80 Industries on the production. He’s an incredible producer who truly understands the vision I’m trying to bring to life. The project is tentatively set for this summer, though there’s no solid date yet! I’m so excited to share this with my Star Children.
This project is an evolution of the sounds from Magenta Sun, but instead of being focused on character-driven stories, it explores spiritual experiences and reflections from my life—filtered through the lenses of recent self-discovery and, of course, dreams. Sonically, it’s shaping up to be a whirlwind—something that captures the beautiful chaos of dreams and creation itself. I’m even trying my hand at a witchy ‘70s-style ballad.
My hope is to convey the power these dreams bring, and music feels like the perfect medium to express that magic. Every word and sound is being carefully woven with intention and enchantment. I can’t wait for you to hear it.
Looking back, what do you think were the three qualities, skills, or areas of knowledge that were most impactful in your journey? What advice do you have for folks who are early in their journey in terms of how they can best develop or improve on these?
Adaptability has been my greatest gift, forged in the chaos of a turbulent childhood. I was born into a life of constant change, pulled in every direction, longing for nothing more than to love and be loved. But learning to do so in the midst of a whirlwind? That’s a skill all its own. The storm taught me to make any situation livable—sometimes even lovable. Before I landed in NYC, I called a three-room shack in the woods home—no running water, just trees and stars. Now, I reside in a shoebox with plumbing, which feels like a luxury. Next stop? A hippy commune with a Warholian-style art factory, naturally.
My theater skills came out of necessity, born from the desire to tell stories. Before I decided to carve my own path as a musician, I was fully immersed in theater. Summers spent studying Shakespeare at Interlochen, high school musical productions—it was all about learning how to make stories resonate with an audience. These days, the stories I tell are my own.
Music production, on the other hand, is still a work in progress. Every day, I uncover how essential it is and how much I still have to learn. My perfectionist brain demands greatness, though I’m nowhere near the level I aspire to be. That’s part of why I applied to NYU—to hone my craft and, hopefully, help others bring their dream sounds to life. For now, I’ve embraced the Bowie method: create what I can and hand it off to someone with sharper tools and more tech savvy, saying, “Here, make this better.” Thank Goddess for collaborators like Simon Jones and King 80—they’re my modern-day alchemists.
Awesome, really appreciate you opening up with us today and before we close maybe you can share a book recommendation with us. Has there been a book that’s been impactful in your growth and development?
. Call Me by Your Name by André Aciman. It’s a risky favorite, I know—especially considering the film adaptation’s controversies—but the novel itself is hauntingly beautiful. Aciman’s writing reopened scars I thought had long healed, only to guide me toward healing them again—this time, in a healthier way and with a deeper understanding.
There’s no clear villain in this book, except perhaps time itself. It’s a story of love so intense that it battles the relentless passage of days. It’s brimming with sex, romance, existential dread, and life, told in a way that feels achingly raw and unforgettable. And then there’s the ending—oh, the ending. It’s devastating. I cried, truly cried, and spent an entire month feeling utterly heartbroken.
During that time, the High as Hope album by Florence + The Machine became my companion. It let me sit with my sadness, cradle my heartbreak, and really feel everything. It was through this process that I found a way to understand my pain and forgive—not just the people who had hurt me, but myself too.
Reading this book was an essential part of my journey. It taught me the value of facing pain head-on. Hold your pain, I say. Sit with it. Invite it for a cup of coffee and get to know it. But don’t let it overstay its welcome or control your life. That’s how you move through it, how you come out the other side a stronger, better version of yourself. And isn’t that what we’re all striving for?
