Meet Martha Argyriou

We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Martha Argyriou a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.

Martha, first a big thank you for taking the time to share your thoughts and insights with us today. I’m sure many of our readers will benefit from your wisdom, and one of the areas where we think your insight might be most helpful is related to imposter syndrome. Imposter syndrome is holding so many people back from reaching their true and highest potential and so we’d love to hear about your journey and how you overcame imposter syndrome.

I’ve moved from Greece to different places, carrying pieces of each home with me, and sometimes that makes me feel like I’m standing on uneven ground in this industry. I’ve worked on so many projects alongside people who seem bigger, louder, or more established, and it’s easy to slip into feeling like I’m somehow below them. But the truth is, every place I’ve lived and every experience I’ve collected has shaped me into an actor with depth, perspective, and my own unique voice. Those life experiences don’t just set me apart — they protect me. They remind me that I’ve already overcome harder things than auditions or comparisons. So even when the doubt shows up, I don’t stay in that impostor feeling, because I know I’ve earned my place through grit, movement, growth, and lived stories. I’m not pretending to belong — my life has already built the foundation that proves I do.

Thanks, so before we move on maybe you can share a bit more about yourself?

I’m an actor originally from Greece, and my work is shaped by the places I’ve lived and the experiences I’ve carried with me. What excites me most about acting is how it lets me bring all of those pieces—cultures, memories, challenges, and changes—into every character I build. Moving through different environments has given me a wider emotional palette, and I think that gives my work a kind of honesty and depth that feels personal and grounded.
What’s special about acting for me is the ability to connect to stories from both the inside and the outside. I’ve worked on so many different projects with people who have impressive résumés, and while it’s easy to feel small in those moments, my life experiences are what remind me that I belong here. They allow me to drop the impostor syndrome and approach the work with curiosity rather than fear.
Right now, I’m expanding the types of roles I take on and exploring projects that lean into my multicultural background. I’m also stepping into more collaborative work—developing pieces with artists I admire, and taking on roles that challenge me to stretch emotionally and technically. There are a few new projects in the pipeline that I’m excited to share soon, each one pushing me into parts of myself I haven’t shown on screen or stage before.
Overall, my brand is about authenticity, depth, and bringing my story into the stories I help tell. I want people to feel something real when they watch my work—something that feels lived, not performed.

Looking back, what do you think were the three qualities, skills, or areas of knowledge that were most impactful in your journey? What advice do you have for folks who are early in their journey in terms of how they can best develop or improve on these?

Living in different places in the world
Trust that you are unique
Talk to people about what you are going through. Sometimes we think that our thoughts are so big but in reality we are all trying to make it

What was the most impactful thing your parents did for you?

The most impactful thing my parents did for me was trust me in my life choices and support every decision I made. From living in California as an exchange student, to studying in London, and then moving to New York City to pursue acting full-time, they always believed in me. That trust gave me the courage to take risks, embrace new experiences, and pursue a career that demands vulnerability and resilience, knowing I have their unwavering support behind me.
