We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Martha Isabelle Scott a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Martha Isabelle, so good to have you with us today. We’ve always been impressed with folks who have a very clear sense of purpose and so maybe we can jump right in and talk about how you found your purpose?
The topics that make you vibrate, the experiences that mark you, what you study, and the people that inspire you, are a guide to finding your purpose.
Let’s take a small detour – maybe you can share a bit about yourself before we dive back into some of the other questions we had for you?
As a dancer I am dedicated to teaching salsa, I am a teacher at Brickell-Miami. I love sharing my knowledge and teaching through my classes about resilience, self-esteem, discipline, etc. On the other hand, I am in the audition stage to be part of soap operas on Miami television channels. I take acting classes because the path of learning is infinite; and I lead a non-profit organization in Colombia that seeks to promote resilience processes through art with vulnerable children in Colombia. I want to invite you to make part of the donations for the dance therapy room that we are building for the My Body is My History foundation.
If you had to pick three qualities that are most important to develop, which three would you say matter most?
Salsa Dance is one of my best skills because it is part of my identity, I have studied the bases, history and evolution of this cultural manifestation that unites many Latin American countries. On the other hand, I feel that acting comes to me in a very natural, deep and truthful way, it is an art that I only began to explore 5 years ago, but with which I currently feel very connected. And leading projects with a psychosocial focus is something in which I became an expert in my profession as a psychologist, it is a skill that I do not intend to abandon because it brings many benefits to other people, who have been and could benefit; I believe that philanthropy is a gift that many artists have.
One of our goals is to help like-minded folks with similar goals connect and so before we go we want to ask if you are looking to partner or collab with others – and if so, what would make the ideal collaborator or partner?
I would like to continue connecting with people sensitive to art, with whom I can share my classes, and for them to become an excuse to create synergy. People interested in impacting society and contributing to philanthropic projects from any approach, action or intention. One of my dreams is to be able to take volunteers to my country of origin, Colombia, to work with the boys and girls of my foundation.
