Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Mary Ann Marriott. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Mary Ann, so great to be with you and I think a lot of folks are going to benefit from hearing your story and lessons and wisdom. Imposter Syndrome is something that we know how words to describe, but it’s something that has held people back forever and so we’re really interested to hear about your story and how you overcame imposter syndrome.
This is a great question. I would have to say that I don’t think I’ve completely overcome it, but I manage it and I think sometimes that’s the best of person can do.
With me, it was around my card readings, and trusting my intuition in the messages coming through. Initially, I felt like the information coming through was my information because I knew the person so one of the ways that I get over this was I started reading for people I didn’t know. Then, how could I possibly know the information I was sharing which started to build my confidence
But ultimately, on a larger scale, is continuing to do what I do and understanding that I do it better than some and not as good as some and that’s OK

Thanks for sharing that. So, before we get any further into our conversation, can you tell our readers a bit about yourself and what you’re working on?
I am known as Your Spiritual Hostess, and I help women who have spent much of their lives serving others reconnect with their authentic selves so they can live with more joy, balance, and ease. Through my coaching, readings, and my signature SHINE Membership, I guide women to gently peel back the layers of conditioning and expectations, so they can remember who they truly are — one soulful step at a time.
What excites me most about my work is witnessing those aha moments when someone realizes they are not broken, just disconnected. I provide a safe, sacred space where women feel seen, heard, and deeply understood. The transformation that follows is powerful — lives shift, relationships heal, and there’s a renewed sense of purpose and light.
Right now, I’m focused on growing the SHINE Membership, a supportive community where women come together to explore spiritual practices, guided meditations, and practical tools for transformation. We also host live group guidance calls and special events. I recently created a soulful mini workshop called The Life You Desire – One Soulful Step at a Time, which helps women take that very first step toward creating the life they’ve been yearning for

There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?
Looking back, three things have been absolutely essential on my journey:
1. Deep Listening & Intuition – Learning to truly listen — not just to others, but to my own inner guidance — has been life-changing. My work is rooted in intuition, and developing that skill has allowed me to support others on a soul level.
2. Radical Acceptance – At many points along the way, I had to stop fighting what was and simply accept it — myself, others, and situations — exactly as they were. This didn’t mean giving up, but rather releasing resistance so I could move forward with more clarity and grace.
3. Authentic Communication – For me, this started as “fake it till you make it.” When I felt deep imposter syndrome, I chose to show up anyway — speaking, sharing, and connecting as though I was the confident guide I wanted to be. Over time, the pretending became reality, and my authentic voice emerged.
My advice for those just starting out:
• Create space to hear your inner voice. Even five minutes of meditation, journaling, or stillness each day can strengthen your intuition.
• Meet yourself with compassion. Practice radical acceptance by releasing judgment of yourself and your circumstances.
• Show up before you feel ready. Confidence is built through action — not before it. Pretend you are the version of yourself you are becoming, and one day, you’ll realize you’re no longer pretending.
Remember, you don’t need to have it all figured out. Take one soulful step at a time and stay deeply connected to why you started.

What do you do when you feel overwhelmed? Any advice or strategies?
When I feel overwhelmed, my first step is actually to stop fighting it. So often we try to push through, fix it, or make it go away, but overwhelm is simply a signal — a message from within.
Instead of resisting, I allow myself to be in the overwhelm. I sit with it, listen to it, and get curious about what it’s trying to tell me. Overwhelm usually isn’t about the to-do list itself; it’s about the beliefs underneath it. It often points to a story I’m telling myself — like “I have to do it all perfectly” or “I’m not enough.”
Once I can identify that belief, I have the power to challenge and rewrite it. The overwhelm becomes a teacher, showing me where growth is possible.
My advice:
• Don’t rush to get out of overwhelm. Take a deep breath and let yourself feel it.
• Listen for the belief beneath the emotion. Ask yourself, “What story am I believing right now?”
• Choose a new, more empowering belief — one that brings clarity and calm.
Overwhelm isn’t the enemy; it’s an invitation to pause, realign, and create a new way forward.
