We were lucky to catch up with Mary Danessa recently and have shared our conversation below.
Mary, looking forward to learning from your journey. You’ve got an amazing story and before we dive into that, let’s start with an important building block. Where do you get your work ethic from?
I got my work ethic from my father. He served in the military and retired out. Life wasn’t always easy for him but he always kept going. After my mother passed away he had became a full-time single father. He would work any job that came his way. I witnessed countless times him putting something back just so one of his kids could have something. I always remember him calling and checking and visiting people. He had told me to go to college and get a good gig. He said I would need to security of standing on my own in case anything would happen.

Let’s take a small detour – maybe you can share a bit about yourself before we dive back into some of the other questions we had for you?
I’ve always enjoyed working with people rather it be PR, healthcare, food industry, or what I’m currently doing now working with people with disabilities. Seeing first hand the role I play in helping someone believe in themselves and live fulfilling lives. Really makes me smile.
Also I am a Plus-size content creator, I balance this while working my full time gig. I started content creating during the pandemic as an essential worker. I focus on GRWM, food reviews, lifestyle, and traveling. I want to encourage inclusivity of Plus size women and us given the same opportunities.

If you had to pick three qualities that are most important to develop, which three would you say matter most?
1) Loving and believing in yourself. Loving yourself will get you far. You are your biggest ally so believe in yourself. Each day use daily affirmations to help uplift yourself and bring positivity.
2) Encourage your besties. They have dreams too. With little encouragement that will go a long way and make them feel good.
3) Not letting hate comments bother you. Most of em are coming from bots. Someone always got something to say but you had the courage to put yourself out there. Plus you don’t have to hide behind an awful pfp or be a bot 💀🤣

One of our goals is to help like-minded folks with similar goals connect and so before we go we want to ask if you are looking to partner or collab with others – and if so, what would make the ideal collaborator or partner?
I would love to work with other Plus size influencers/content creators. I would love to also continue to collab with restaurants to highlight LA food. Hopefully some beauty & travel brands too.
