We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Mary Louise Scott. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Mary Louise below.
Mary Louise , so great to have you with us and we want to jump right into a really important question. In recent years, it’s become so clear that we’re living through a time where so many folks are lacking self-confidence and self-esteem. So, we’d love to hear about your journey and how you developed your self-confidence and self-esteem.
That’s a very question. I feel like that developed early in my childhood/young adulthood. Growing up I didn’t have a good upbringing. It seemed like every time I wanted to do something I was always told it wouldn’t happen. There was never any support from my family members. There was so much negativity around me. I knew that I needed to work harder and to ignore those who were negative. This had actually what gave me the drive, motivation and confidence that I needed. I began to work harder and feed off their negativity in a positive way. The more I was told that I couldn’t do something, the more I pushed myself to make it happen. Which also led me to start keeping things to myself and not share my dreams and aspirations with those who didn’t believe in me or wanted me to succeed.

Thanks for sharing that. So, before we get any further into our conversation, can you tell our readers a bit about yourself and what you’re working on?
I currently have four novels published and working on my next novel now. My books are available on Amazon and Barnes and Noble. I also have an audio series called Raven Falls: Vampire Chronicles, which is available on Pocket FM. It’s also my newest book released.
What’s really exciting for me right now is I’m working on the new series Exit Valley TV show. I’ve got some of my episodes available on my social media platforms. They’re also available on YouTube.. I have some other projects in the works and will be released on my social media platforms.

There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?
I would have to say education, having thick skin and confidence. The reason I say this is because as I was discovering I could write, I took my education more seriously. As you know grammar and English is very important to have. It’s very important to have self discipline. The reason I say you need thick skin is because there will always be people who will tell you, you can’t do it. Or that you’ll never go anywhere, etc. There’s also the number of rejections and criticisms thrown at you. It’s very important to use this as fuel to succeed. Never give up and always keep learning your craft and improving the tools you need to succeed.

All the wisdom you’ve shared today is sincerely appreciated. Before we go, can you tell us about the main challenge you are currently facing?
For this, I would have to say that it’s promoting, marketing and being able to attend more events. When you’re an independent artist, writer, or other creative person it’s very hard to get your work out there. It’s not easy selling your work on your own. So much goes into it and being able to financially can be very challenging. My biggest challenge right now is finding the time and money to get out there to sell my work at events. There aren’t many places where independent authors can hold book events. Being independent means you pay for everything.
