Meet Mary Reed

Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Mary Reed. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.

Hi Mary , so excited to have you with us today, particularly to get your insight on a topic that comes up constantly in the community – overcoming creativity blocks. Any thoughts you can share with us?
As a songwriter and singer I tend to forget hymns, melodies, and pitches. When creating a new song or continuing on a past song. So I began to constantly record myself with or without an instrumental to capture the current idea for my song. By doing this I was able to have a selection of ideas to add or take away from my song. Also whenever I got writer’s block from one song. I’ll go work on another, it would give me more inspiration.I learned as well that writing more in a state of pain or state of emotion is where a lot of my best work came from so I would say writer’s block is normal for people. I just had to learn how to adjust to it and find a way to help myself stay consistent and motivated.

Appreciate the insights and wisdom. Before we dig deeper and ask you about the skills that matter and more, maybe you can tell our readers about yourself?
I currently have a new song dropping called “Can I come home momma”. The song will be dropping May 14th on Mother’s Day. I wrote to song as a gift to my grandma thank her for welcome me back. In 2020, I left home catching a fancy. Which introduced me to people, places and things. I had no business partaking in. But by enduring this was I was able to regain light on who I am. Learning to loving myself and more.

There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?
Learning the skill and knowledge of embracement. Being able to be okay with the now and hoping for a better tomorrow. Thought me to remain positive. Second is accountability the skill of being accountable for your actions shows integrity. It also helps to promote heathy healing being able to accept the part you played in hurting yourself is also forgiving yourself. Lasting disciple being able to strip yourself from things at no longer benefit or serves your best interest.

What do you do when you feel overwhelmed? Any advice or strategies?
I had to learn how to train myself to only stress what’s in the control of myself only react to situations that I know I can change and fix. It doesn’t mean I won’t feel overwhelmed but it will minimize what I get overwhelmed about.
