Meet Masa (Masanori) Takumi

We were lucky to catch up with Masa (Masanori) Takumi recently and have shared our conversation below.

Masa (Masanori), thanks so much for taking the time to share your insights and lessons with us today. We’re particularly interested in hearing about how you became such a resilient person. Where do you get your resilience from?
From my mom’s tip and support, my dog Vanilla he heals me a lot when I lost confidencee and Grammy Awards when I saw the show in LA it gives me a surge of energy.

Appreciate the insights and wisdom. Before we dig deeper and ask you about the skills that matter and more, maybe you can tell our readers about yourself?
I’m Japanese music composer, song writer producer and multi-instrumentalist. I have been writing songs as Masanori Takumi (full name) from 2000 and at the same time doing my own instrumental project as Masa Takumi (Stage name) from 2016.
One of my dreams was getting nomination and win for Grammy Awards. at 5th album called “Sakura” I was nominated for Best Global Music Album in 2022 and won its category in 2023. The project is written by me and played many instruments by me such as Shamisen, Piano, Guitar, Bass and drums.
I blended Japanese traditional instruments with recent popular music so it must be unique for American people and trying to spread out Japanese culture for the people who don’t know which Japanese traditional music they should listen. I think Japanese foods are famous among American people though not many American people don’t listen to Japanese music very much. For let them know my country’s music, I wanna be a bridge between Japanese music culture and American music industry.

If you had to pick three qualities that are most important to develop, which three would you say matter most?
I joined a brass band when I was 4 grades in elementary school and played trumpet that was first motivation to join music journey.

when I was 13 years I saw X Japan legendary rock band mostly leader, drummer, pianist and composer YOSHIKI I was so influenced by him.

And a show changed my life that is 53rd Grammy Awards it looked some other creature’s productions and performances when I couldn’t speak English at all but as soon as I came back to japan, I started to learn English to aspire Grammy with my music.

What was the most impactful thing your parents did for you?
They bought me any instruments if I asked them such as trumpet, drums, piano, guitar and bass. And when I got in rock band competition, thay came to see my performance evry time.
Although they are not musician, I coudn’t be a musician without their support, help and affection.
