Meet Masiyah Imani

We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Masiyah Imani a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.

Masiyah , so good to have you with us today. We’ve always been impressed with folks who have a very clear sense of purpose and so maybe we can jump right in and talk about how you found your purpose?

I found my purpose when I first began my healing journey. Through the pain, tears, and facing my shadow, I learned that I find strength in helping people. I always knew that my voice was powerful and could heal people. I learned that I had to be more intentional with my gifts and how I impact people. I realized that I wanted to pay forward all the help I’ve received in the past.

Let’s take a small detour – maybe you can share a bit about yourself before we dive back into some of the other questions we had for you?

I am an educator by day, and an artist by night. Lol I tell my students that I’m Hannah Montana because they have no idea of who I am outside of the classroom. I have been making music since a little girl, and teaching is a passion that I developed later in life. I also have a nonprofit organization Pass The Mic Ent., where we provide after school programs for the youth geared towards music performance. We also hold open mics, showcases, and community events. I love it because it combines my love for music and working with the youth!

There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?

Faith
Perseverance
Discernment

Some advice I would give people on their journey is to always trust God and trust yourself. Have faith during times of uncertainty and use discernment on when to walk away.

What has been your biggest area of growth or improvement in the past 12 months?

Trusting that inner voice and not being afraid to take big leaps of faith. My relationship with God has strengthened over this past year as well. I feel like overall I’ve gained a lot more strength and wisdom from my previous experiences. It has made me a better woman.
