We were lucky to catch up with Matcha Ritual recently and have shared our conversation below.
Matcha, thanks so much for taking the time to share your insights and lessons with us today. We’re particularly interested in hearing about how you became such a resilient person. Where do you get your resilience from?
Our resilience comes from how deeply we believe in the mission behind Matcha Ritual. We truly love matcha, and we believe more people deserve to experience not just the drink itself, but the calm, intentional ritual behind it. The idea that someone across the country (or even the world) might use one of our matcha sets to start their day with intention? That drives us every time.
Starting a small business means stepping into the unknown: ordering inventory you’re not sure will sell, navigating hidden platform fees, building supplier relationships, all while trying to create a product you’re genuinely proud of. One early challenge that stands out: we were so excited about a product sample that we thought would be the foundation of the business. But when it finally arrived, it just wasn’t what we’d envisioned. It was hard—it took time, effort, and emotional energy to get to that point, only to realize we had to pivot.
But that’s where resilience kicks in. You learn to adapt. We went back to sourcing, testing, refining, and now we have something even better. That whole process taught us that resilience isn’t just about powering through; it’s about staying open, listening to feedback, and having the courage to try again (and again) until something feels right.
We grew up in a place where Japanese culture and influence was rich. Over time, we learned more about matcha–the health benefits, the different types, and the deep tradition behind it. And what we’ve come to love most is the ritual of making it. We move through life so quickly. So, being able to slow down, step away from screens, and do something intentional just for yourself…it’s grounding, and it’s helped us learn to hold space for stillness in our own lives. That’s what we want to share with others.
So yes, our resilience comes from that mission. From this little green moment of calm we get to create and offer to other people every day.
Appreciate the insights and wisdom. Before we dig deeper and ask you about the skills that matter and more, maybe you can tell our readers about yourself?
Matcha Ritual was born out of a love for matcha—not just the drink, but the ritual behind it. We started this brand with a simple belief: that something as small as making a matcha latte can become a grounding, beautiful part of your day. We live in a world that moves fast, and we wanted to create something that invites people to slow down, reconnect, and make space for stillness (not to mention, matcha is delicious and has amazing health benefits).
What began as a personal ritual quickly turned into a mission. We realized that while matcha is growing in popularity, many people don’t have access to the tools or knowledge to enjoy it in the way it’s meant to be experienced–intentionally, with respect for the tradition behind it, and without the clumps, bitterness, or overwhelm.
We offer thoughtfully curated matcha sets that make it easy to start a matcha ritual at home without any fancy equipment or barista skills. Just beautiful, high-quality tools and a little guidance.
What we’re most excited about right now is our Collection 1 Matcha Sets, available in two styles: White and Green. These sets are minimalist, functional, and elevated. They’re the kind of pieces that don’t just sit in your kitchen, but become part of your daily rhythm. They look beautiful on your counter, and they’re the exact tools my team and I use in our own personal matcha making routines every single day. We believe in them deeply, because we know firsthand how joyful a small, daily ritual can be.
More than anything, Iwe want people to feel empowered to carve out intentional time for themselves, even if it’s just five minutes in the morning. Matcha just happens to be the perfect place to start.

Looking back, what do you think were the three qualities, skills, or areas of knowledge that were most impactful in your journey? What advice do you have for folks who are early in their journey in terms of how they can best develop or improve on these?
One of the biggest skills we’ve had to learn is how to make decisions when the path isn’t totally clear. As a small business owner, you don’t get a runbook. You’re making calls every day based on instinct, research, and a little bit of hope. It’s so easy to get stuck in the weeds, overanalyzing, waiting until something feels “perfect,” and never actually putting it out there. But, we’ve learned that you can (and should) launch before you feel 1,000% ready–as long as you believe in the quality of what you’re offering. You can learn and adjust from real feedback, but you can’t grow from what you never shared.
The second skill is learning to truly listen to your customers. It’s so tempting to assume that just because you love something, other people will too. However, the magic really happens when you stay open to feedback–good, bad, or somewhere in between–and use it to create even more value. When we launched our Collection 1 matcha sets, we were so excited (and a little nervous). But hearing how people use them, what they love, what they want more of…that’s how we keep growing and improving.
The last one might be my favorite: storytelling and brand clarity. Being able to clearly communicate why you’re doing what you’re doing and how you want people to feel when they experience it, is everything. From the beginning, we knew Matcha Ritual wasn’t just about matcha tools. It was about creating a feeling. A small, intentional moment of calm in someone’s day. Learning how to tell that story visually, emotionally, and consistently has been one of the most impactful parts of the journey so far.
Okay, so before we go we always love to ask if you are looking for folks to partner or collaborate with?
Absolutely! We’re always looking to collaborate with creators, brands, and small businesses who care about wellness, intentional living, and of course *matcha*.
We especially love partnering with:
• Wellness and matcha-focused creators or brands who are passionate about sharing rituals that support calm, joy, and daily presence.
• Small businesses selling high-quality matcha powder. We’d love to feature you on our blog and share your product with our community, along with a referral link or code.
We’re all about building community and helping more people discover beautiful ways to enjoy matcha in their everyday lives. If that sounds like a fit, we’d love to connect. You can reach us at thematcharitual@gmail.com or send us a DM on Instagram @shopmatcharitual.
