Meet Matt Hausmann

Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Matt Hausmann. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.

Hi Matt, appreciate you sitting with us today to share your wisdom with our readers. So, let’s start with resilience – where do you get your resilience from?

I’ve been working in the film and TV industry since 1996 in an environment that’s fast-paced and fiercely competitive. Over the years, I’ve learned resilience through job hunting, script submissions, contests, and the search for representation. Most of the time, you never hear back after sending screenplays or query letters. You have to rise above it, not take it personally, and keep pushing forward.

Great, so let’s take a few minutes and cover your story. What should folks know about you and what you do?

I’m a multi-hyphenate. A screenwriter, director, prop master, graphic designer, and editor. Please check out all the projects I’ve been a part of at: https://www.imdb.com/name/nm1209890/ and all the exciting clips on my YouTube channel at: https://www.youtube.com/user/mattiebumbum. I’ve always wanted to be a part of filmmaking from my early days. I remember seeing Raiders of the Lost Ark at a drive-in. I was hooked. Someone even wrote in my 7th-grade yearbook, “Good luck in L.A. I have an art, theatre, and film production background. My main focus is writing feature screenplays. I have 10 features tightly drafted, 3 TV pilots, and several shorts. I’m working on a new feature script about parenting and anxiety. Check out my website, mhscripts.com, that’s jam-packed with pitches, a bio, reels, interviews, links, posters, loglines, synopses, mood boards, and much more! It’s a comprehensive library of everything I’ve written, as well as some of the new scripts I’m currently working on.

If you had to pick three qualities that are most important to develop, which three would you say matter most?

I think it’s important to be a jack-of-all-trades in the film and TV industry. Understanding how other departments operate is incredibly valuable. Organization and communication are essential, and being outgoing and willing to network is a huge part of the job.

What has been your biggest area of growth or improvement in the past 12 months?

My writing and pitching have grown significantly over the past 12 months. A few weeks ago, I attended the American Film Market, where I pitched six feature spec scripts to multiple production companies, producers, and agents. Many were receptive to my ideas and took my pitch decks. I brought 120 with me and came home with maybe 15. Overall, it was a great day out. It was a good day out!
