Meet Matt O’Neill

We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Matt O’Neill. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Matt below.

Matt, thank you so much for joining us. You are such a positive person and it’s something we really admire and so we wanted to start by asking you where you think your optimism comes from?

Matt founded a business that grew 100 employees and $10 million in revenues. He achieved everything he’d always wanted – money, recognition, a beautiful wife and family, even charity work… but the fulfillment he so desperately sought was still out of reach. That’s when his focus shifted to finding the true source of happiness… within.

In the following decade, Matt committed himself to learning from the world’s greatest teachers on lasting happiness. He studied directly with Eckhart Tolle, Marianne Williamson, Tony Robbins, Sadhguru, Ed Mylette, Dr. Jane Goodall, Dr. Benjamin Hardy, and countless others. These masters taught him how to rewire his brain for happiness.

Now you can benefit from his hard-won insights and achieve lasting happiness for yourself as well.

Let’s take a small detour – maybe you can share a bit about yourself before we dive back into some of the other questions we had for you?

Matt O’Neill believes that life, with all its challenges, can be filled with happiness, should we choose it. Overcoming personal adversity, Matt refused to accept bad moods as his norm and embarked on a quest for authentic good moods.

For two decades, he has mastered the science of conscious happiness while becoming one of the world’s foremost experts on positive psychology. As the creator of the “Good Mood Revolution” podcast and author of the forthcoming book, Matt teaches audiences how to harness the power of good moods while conquering negative thought patterns.

Matt’s unique approach to choosing good moods, even in the face of adversity, resonates deeply with audiences. Invite him to share his journey and practical strategies on your show, and help your listeners unlock their potential for joy, resilience, and positivity.

If you had to pick three qualities that are most important to develop, which three would you say matter most?

1. Happiness is a choice of perspective
– Any situation that feels stressful, unfair, anxiety-inducing, or frustrating, can be turned around by seeing it from different perspectives. Life, like a diamond, can not be seen on all angles and sides at once. When we do see the holistic view of a situation, from sides and angles we had not seen yet, the value of the situation appears.

2. Every challenging situation is sent to set you free
– Challenges in life never stop. The path to lasting happiness is a path of freedom from negative thinking. Any situation that hooks you into negative thinking is the path to freedom. The obstacle is the way.

3. The pivotal change out of ego and into higher thinking is moving from pride to humility
– Pride is the pinnacle of the ego. Looking good, succeeding, winning, and getting what we want are all prideful behaviors. But pride is not happiness. Happiness has a foundation in humility. With humility we see that anything we have has been gifted to us by God / the universe and it can be taken from us at any moment. This gives way to gratitude for everything good (and bad) we experience.

To close, maybe we can chat about your parents and what they did that was particularly impactful for you?

My dad put me down, shamed me, and made me feel like I could do nothing right to win his love or approval. This was the best thing for my long-term development. Your pain becomes your purpose. My purpose is now to affirm what is right in everyone else. I see that I am not alone in feeling unworthy, less-than, and unloveable. This is the root of all our deepest fears. By having to face these feelings within me, and rise up and proclaim the truth of my true worth, I am not able to help others do the same. Thank you Dad! 🙂
