We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Matt Rogers. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Matt below.
Alright, so we’re so thrilled to have Matt with us today – welcome and maybe we can jump right into it with a question about one of your qualities that we most admire. How did you develop your work ethic? Where do you think you get it from?
I suppose the work ethic of my parents and grandparents played a big part of that. They taught me that nothing comes easy, and you have to work everyday to achieve your goals. They taught me to never give up and keep pushing toward your goals. I’ve learned that lesson many times over being in this industry. It takes a lot of resilience and determination to keep going sometimes, but I’ve learned to keep focused and keep my eyes on the goal.
Thanks for sharing that. So, before we get any further into our conversation, can you tell our readers a bit about yourself and what you’re working on?
Although I achieve a degree in biology and was employed in the medical field, my soul wasn’t satisfied. I knew I wanted to pursue music as a career. I left that job for Nashville nearly 10 years ago. This career isn’t for the faint of heart, but I think it was right for me. I love pouring my thoughts and emotions into a song and hearing it come to life. I love performing in front of a crowd and seeing them consume the music. The listeners keep me going; they really don’t have any idea how much they have kept me pushing forward.
I’ve put out four new singles already this year with another one coming in October. I’m writing new music almost weekly, sometimes more often than that. 2025 will see new music releases and an expanded tour schedule.
There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?
A strong support system was critical for me. Knowing I had people in my corner for anything was reassuring. A strong work ethic is also important. It’s your business, and you have to treat it as such. There’s very little “time off” and you just have to keep grinding every day. I’ve also relied heavily on my faith. Lastly, perseverance is a quality you must have. Although it can happen, most often it takes a while to establish yourself as a serious songwriter and performer. Above all, don’t give up!
Before we go, maybe you can tell us a bit about your parents and what you feel was the most impactful thing they did for you?
They introduced me to all genres of music — from the great songs of the 60s and 70s, to contemporary Christian, to rock and roll, we listened to it all. I think the varied influences can be heard in a lot of my music. They also made sure we attended church as a family and served as good role models.
