Meet Matthew Haddix

We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Matthew Haddix a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.

Matthew, looking forward to learning from your journey. You’ve got an amazing story and before we dive into that, let’s start with an important building block. Where do you get your work ethic from?
If i have to say where my work ethic came from i would say it would be my mother Yulanda Haddix. My mother is a workaholic if i have to say and she has been working hard my while life. She is part of the NAACP in Starkville Mississippi and attends a lot of community events in the city to increase awareness of the growth that Mississippi needs. Growing up watching her work and striving to be the best she can be has always been motivation that keeps me striving for the same.

My wife has been working since i met her and if their is an individual that succeeds in working and progressing in any kind of work enviroment. It is her. She has always been consistent and been an influence in implementing ideas since the beginning

Appreciate the insights and wisdom. Before we dig deeper and ask you about the skills that matter and more, maybe you can tell our readers about yourself?
My name is Matthew Haddix and i am a crafter of grooming products as well and leather products for my company Litmercantile. What i feel is most exciting and special about the company is that we gather ingredients that are as local as they can be and create a product that is a taken from the feedback and recommendations of the customers. We also work as hard as we can to purchase materials that are made in America and create designs that is simple but high quality. This company started in a 1 bedroom apartment in Houston TX and has grown to be included in Newspapers, TV News, and vending events all through Tennessee. As of right now we have been working on our leather line and will be working on creating bigger items like Bags, purses and large wallets as well as custom designs in the future that will be limited releases. As well we are working on funding and building capital so we can make products more efficient and faster so we can satisfy customer demands of specific items. This process is becoming very fun and cannot wait for what the future has in store

If you had to pick three qualities that are most important to develop, which three would you say matter most?
Looking back i would say the 3 qualities that were most impactful were consistency, ambition, and creativity. So some advice i would have for folks early in their journey is to be consistent. Consistency is king and a lot of businesses fail do to not being consistent. whether it is with the quality of your product or the service that you offer, it has to be as consistent as possible because when customers shop or check out your business they are going off what the last person has said about it,

Okay, so before we go, is there anyone you’d like to shoutout for the role they’ve played in helping you develop the essential skills or overcome challenges along the way?
I would have to say my Wife Britney Hopkins has been the most helpful with overcoming challenges. She is the first person to tell me if a product is a good idea or if the customers will keep coming back for a item. She has also picked me up when i thought about closing the business down do to stress and low sales. She was the individual that came up with the name also and was very critical with the logos and labeling.
