Meet Mattie Miller

We were lucky to catch up with Mattie Miller recently and have shared our conversation below.

Hi Mattie, we’re so appreciative of you taking the time to share your nuggets of wisdom with our community. One of the topics we think is most important for folks looking to level up their lives is building up their self-confidence and self-esteem. Can you share how you developed your confidence?

Growing up I was always told to stay in the background and not be out front in anything. After leaving home at age 18 I had many people around me that started speaking life over me. It took me years to believe that God had a plan for me. I still felt like I didn’t have a purpose that was for me alone. Really it all started when I asked God to take over my life and that I would follow what he had for me. I have learned to go with facts and not just feelings. I needed to learn to take God at his word and trust him alone.

Appreciate the insights and wisdom. Before we dig deeper and ask you about the skills that matter and more, maybe you can tell our readers about yourself?

I am amazed at how God showed me what he had for me. I was at a place in my life where the only way to keep going was climb out of the mess I had allowed myself to get into. He used so many incredible people to speak into my life including some of my family members. I had people who trusted my baking skills and always bought from us and loved our products. The first time I was introduced to making jelly the idea came from a past customer who loved the pies and breads we made. I didn’t learn how to make jelly until I was in my 30s. He also brought a coach into my life that I am forever grateful for who is very compassionate and has amazing insights in the personal growth world, that helped me see what was holding me back from making this into a business I can be proud of.
We are now at the point of taking our manufacturing to a copacker to have them produce it for us. Next we are looking to do wholesale to stores in the area to get our brand out there even more. We are also launching subscription based services as well. You will be able to setup a subscription and your jam/jelly will be sent to your door every month. What I am truly excited about is creating more unique flavors that people love.

If you had to pick three qualities that are most important to develop, which three would you say matter most?

Trusting that God has a plan and learn to listen and follow it. Not everyone who gives advise means well. Having the discernment of who has your best interest at heart comes with time and sometimes hard lessons. so don’t be afraid to try again even if you make a wrong move. If you don’t have the skills needed to grow a business then get around people who do and will show you they have your best interest at heart. Not everybody is looking to capitalize on teaching others. True supporters will be there even when they are not being paid for every little thing, Making connections with people that last and stand the test of time, takes time and effort on both sides.

Is there a particular challenge you are currently facing?

Our biggest challenge at this point is growth capital to scale to the next level. We are not in a position to take on debt so I have created a kickstarter to help us with our first order with our co packer. we have many supporters who want to see us succeed and want to help. Ken Price, Has been a great coach who has been there through the last few years and has helped both with coaching for next steps and also coached me to believe in myself to carry on. While I am very passionate about the jam/jelly flavors we create, It can get frustrating to keep going in these different stages of growth. No matter what you are doing we all need to have those people in our corner who keep us going.
