We recently connected with Maurice Leggett and have shared our conversation below.
Hi Maurice, thank you for being such a positive, uplifting person. We’ve noticed that so many of the successful folks we’ve had the good fortune of connecting with have high levels of optimism and so we’d love to hear about your optimism and where you think it comes from.
My optimism comes from my life experiences. My personal life has been a roller coaster growing up. Things that I’ve been through weren’t the greatest, but I’ve been around people that their lives were worse than mine. So I tell myself, it could be worse, and I believe that I can handle anything.
Thanks, so before we move on maybe you can share a bit more about yourself?
I’m a behavior specialist for DeKalb county school district and I am the owner of MoeVaKi Vodka. I’m a former professional football player. Played four years in the NFL, five years in the CFL, and seven years in the Arena Football League. I am currently working on growing my vodka company to where I can create more career opportunities. I’m also doing lead roles and multiple films.
There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?
My discipline, my drive, and my optimism.
Alright so to wrap up, who deserves credit for helping you overcome challenges or build some of the essential skills you’ve needed?
My grandfather. He has helped me in more ways than one can imagine. Something as little as telling me to never quit on your goals and don’t allow anything to stop you from getting to your goals, “including me.”
