Meet Mavis Cloyde

We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Mavis Cloyde. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Mavis below.

Hi Mavis, really happy you were able to join us today and we’re looking forward to sharing your story and insights with our readers. Let’s start with the heart of it all – purpose. How did you find your purpose?

For a long time I didn’t feel like I belonged. I wanted a place to feel at home, but not in a living situation- something more. When I was 14 I started to explore more of the fandoms I like, things I enjoyed, and what nots. I discovered cosplay, voice acting, and a new love for theater along the way. It’s carried me a long way now, obviously.

Appreciate the insights and wisdom. Before we dig deeper and ask you about the skills that matter and more, maybe you can tell our readers about yourself?

Hi! I’m Mavis- or MaveyWavie as the internet knows me. I’m an award winning cosplayer from Kansas City. For nearly 6 years now I have explored the creative possibilities of cosplay, and for over a year now I have handmade all my cosplays. My love for the theatrics and the voice over booth have pushed me to where I am today. I encourage any of my “Little Wavies” (my followers) to explore creative paths, whatever makes them happy, and to spread positivity. With 2024 coming to its final months I am super excited to start branching out more and hopefully do collaborative content, con’s, more theater, and spread happiness.

There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?

I’m completely self taught, in terms of what I do. I didn’t have a teacher, unless we count the VERY helpful videos of one Sarah Spaceman on YouTube. From how to wind a bobbin- to how to solder LEDs to a “brain”. Three qualities that I would say stick out is resilience, my self confidence in what I’m doing, and my positivity even when things don’t work out, or I don’t win the award I was going for. No matter what journey you’re starting- don’t give up. Everything has hardships and roadblocks, even hurdles to jump. Just keep pushing forward and learning new ways to do things.

Alright, so before we go we want to ask you to take a moment to reflect and share what you think you would do if you somehow knew you only had a decade of life left?

Mental health is such a big issue- for not only me. I want to collaborate and I want to get sponsors and guesting spots- but when you get stuck in your head it’s super hard to get out. This last summer has been particularly rough with loosing several people I thought were friends, financial difficulties, and big changes. I’m slowly getting my head back in the game and going back to creating just to create- rather than setting huge expectations on a short term deadline. Creating should be fun, not stressful.
