We recently connected with Maxwell Martin and have shared our conversation below.
Hi Maxwell, appreciate you sitting with us today to share your wisdom with our readers. So, let’s start with resilience – where do you get your resilience from?
I would say I get my resilience from the adversity that I had to go through as a foster child being that there were so many changes being changed from home to home just when I was getting comfortable and feeling loved by the family things would come in and change very rapidly so as a young child, I had to learn how to quickly gain my resilience which helped me in adulthood when things quickly change within prime example my career

If you had to pick three qualities that are most important to develop, which three would you say matter most?
The most three important quality or Skills which helped me navigate through my career. I would have to say one always keep your integrity. And knowing who you are and what you stand for and knowing what’s right from wrong to never stop dreaming, we’re never too old to dream dreaming is what keeps us on the pursuit and staying on this journey because once you have it all it stops so always continues to dream and reach even beyond the stars Lastly I will have to say take the initiative to be a help to someone else and pour back into others who have poured into you

Is there a particular challenge you are currently facing?
The number one challenge that I feel like that I am facing with my career that I am a minority to certain type of things that don’t quite fit the normal standards I am a black male my sexuality, identify as gay, and these things make it quite hard to navigate and find and book jobs within the predominantly white race and the top white superstars sometimes it’s very hard for me to work and get those jobs on set. I feel like I have to go extra harder because of where I’ve come from who I identify as And there’s not quite many people that look like me or have representation like me and room that I would love to be in. I want to be looked at as just not gay male friends who can just do your hair and make up or the black man who can just style African-American or Latino hair. I just want to be able to show up and just share my gift with all races genders sexualities cultures Because at the end of the day, we’re all the same race the human race
