We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Maya Bosnjak. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Maya below.
Hi Maya , so excited to talk about all sorts of important topics with you today. The first one we want to jump into is about being the only one in the room – for some that’s being the only person of color or the only non-native English speaker or the only non-MBA, etc Can you talk to us about how you have managed to be successful even when you were the only one in the room that looked like you?
I’ve often been the only one in the room who looks like me — sometimes it feels like I walked onto the wrong movie set :)! But I’ve learned to take a deep breath, smile, and just be myself. A little humor goes a long way, and focusing on my work reminds me why I’m there. Being the ‘only one’ pushed me to trust my instincts, speak up, and bring a fresh perspective — and once you stop worrying about fitting in, people start noticing your value — and sometimes even start taking notes:).

Let’s take a small detour – maybe you can share a bit about yourself before we dive back into some of the other questions we had for you?
We are a creative team passionate about floral design and immersive experiences. Our work goes beyond decoration — we aim to transform spaces, evoke emotion, and tell a story through every detail.
What excites us most is taking an idea and bringing it to life in a way that feels intentional, beautiful, and memorable. Every project is unique — from weddings and brand collaborations to editorial shoots — and we love exploring color, texture, and structure to create designs that leave a lasting impression.
We also collaborate with businesses on branding and visual storytelling, helping bring their vision to life in a thoughtful and cohesive way.
Recently, we’ve expanded our work into new cities and are now beginning destination projects in different countries, which has opened doors to fresh creative opportunities and exciting collaborations. We’re also preparing to launch a series of floral workshops, focused on technique, design philosophy, and encouraging others to discover their own creative voice.
Every project we take on is a chance to create beauty, tell a story, and inspire those who experience it.

If you had to pick three qualities that are most important to develop, which three would you say matter most?
Looking back, there are three qualities that have been most impactful in my journey: creativity, attention to detail, and adaptability.
Creativity has always been the driving force behind our work — the ability to see possibilities and tell stories through design is what sets everything in motion. To develop this, I encourage early creatives to explore different mediums, experiment without fear of failure, and consistently challenge themselves to see things differently.
Attention to detail is what turns a good design into a memorable experience. Learning to be intentional with every choice — whether it’s color, texture, or composition — makes a huge difference. Early in your journey, practice patience, slow down, and focus on refining your craft.
Adaptability has been essential because every project, client, or collaboration is unique. Being open to new ideas, flexible in execution, and willing to pivot when necessary allows growth and keeps your work relevant. My advice is to embrace challenges as opportunities to learn, and never be afraid to step out of your comfort zone.
For anyone starting out, I’d say: cultivate curiosity, practice intentionally, and embrace every experience as a chance to grow. The combination of creativity, care, and flexibility will carry you far in any creative or professional pursuit.

To close, maybe we can chat about your parents and what they did that was particularly impactful for you?
The most important lessons my parents gave me weren’t just about work — they were about creativity, independence, respecting others, and finding joy in life. My dad, a super creative entrepreneur, taught me to take risks, dream big, and chase ideas with excitement — I lost him young, but his passion still lights the way.
My mom, the hardest-working woman I know, showed me that if you want something done right, either do it yourself or hand it to the right person. She also taught me the value of dedication, discipline, and appreciating the efforts of others. And above all, my parents showed me that love and humor are non-negotiable — no matter how serious life gets, a little laughter and care makes everything better.
These lessons guide everything I do: I love taking initiative, experimenting boldly, and trusting my instincts, while celebrating the talents of the amazing people around me. And honestly, having a supportive, fun, and talented team? That’s where the real magic happens.
