We recently connected with Maya Enriquez and have shared our conversation below.
Maya, we’ve been so fortunate to work with so many incredible folks and one common thread we have seen is that those who have built amazing lives for themselves are also often the folks who are most generous. Where do you think your generosity comes from?
Growing up in a Mexican household, one thing was always clear—no matter how tight things got, we never let anyone go hungry. Even when money was low, my parents taught me that food was meant to be shared. If we had one meal left, we’d still find a way to split it with whoever needed it. That’s just how we were raised—community first, always.
I remember countless nights when my mom would stretch a meal to make sure everyone at the table ate, even if it meant she and my dad took smaller portions. We’d have surprise visitors, family members stopping by unannounced, and somehow, there was always a plate ready for them. It wasn’t about how much we had—it was about making sure everyone had something. Those moments shaped me, and that generosity became second nature.
Now, as the owner of Muy Bueno Bakery, I carry that same spirit with me. Since day one, anytime I have extra cakes or treats, I make sure they don’t go to waste. I call ahead to find a place where they’d be welcomed—maybe a shelter, a community center, or a group of hardworking folks who could use a little pick-me-up. Then, I personally drop them off, knowing that a simple dessert can brighten someone’s day.
This isn’t just about business for me. It’s about carrying on what my parents taught me—because generosity isn’t about having more, it’s about making sure everyone has a little something. And if that something happens to be cake? Even better.

Let’s take a small detour – maybe you can share a bit about yourself before we dive back into some of the other questions we had for you?
I’m Maya Enriquez, the owner of Muy Bueno Bakery, where every cake is made with heart, heritage, and a whole lot of love. My bakery is all about bringing people together through delicious, homemade flavors inspired by my culture—whether it’s a classic Tres Leches, a Horchata Tres Leches, or a rich Chocolate Oreo Tres Leches.
What makes Muy Bueno Bakery special isn’t just the flavors, but the meaning behind them. Baking has always been a way for me to share my family’s traditions, and I love seeing how my cakes become a part of my customers’ most special moments—birthdays, weddings, anniversaries, and everything in between. I truly believe food has a way of bringing joy, and that’s exactly what I aim to do with every single order.
Right now, I’m focused on growing the bakery, expanding my menu, and continuing to connect with my community. I’m also excited to keep finding ways to give back—whether that’s through collaborations, pop-ups, or donating extra cakes to those who could use a little sweetness in their day.
If you’re looking for a cake that’s not just good, but muy bueno, you know where to find me.

Looking back, what do you think were the three qualities, skills, or areas of knowledge that were most impactful in your journey? What advice do you have for folks who are early in their journey in terms of how they can best develop or improve on these?
1. Embracing Imperfection & Growth
Growing up, I was taught that mistakes were not failures—they were opportunities to learn and grow. My parents always encouraged me to embrace imperfection and see every setback as a chance to improve. This mindset has been vital in my journey with Muy Bueno Bakery. Early on, I made mistakes in the kitchen, whether it was a cake that didn’t rise the way I wanted or a flavor combination that didn’t turn out as expected. But instead of letting those moments discourage me, I used them to refine my skills and push myself forward.
I’ve learned that growth comes from taking risks and accepting that things won’t always go perfectly. Each challenge has only made me better, and I’ve carried that mindset into every batch of cakes I bake and every customer interaction. I want to show others that it’s okay to not be perfect and that embracing the process is what truly makes success meaningful.
Advice: Don’t be afraid to make mistakes or face challenges—each one is a step toward growth. Celebrate your progress, and know that the path to success isn’t a straight line; it’s a series of ups and downs that help you become better. 💛
2. Progress Over Perfection
At my high school graduation, I had the honor of giving a speech. I talked about how social media pressures us to chase perfection—perfect grades, perfect makeup, perfect relationships—but that idea is false. Perfection doesn’t exist. It only sets us up for failure because nothing in life is flawless. Instead, we should strive for progress.
I shared with my classmates that they shouldn’t be afraid to set goals for themselves and their future. But more importantly, they should celebrate every step along the way. A happy dance, a checkmark on a list, blasting your favorite song—whatever it is, acknowledging those small wins keeps you going. When we celebrate progress, we build momentum, confidence, and motivation to reach even bigger goals.
This mindset is what keeps Muy Bueno Bakery growing. I didn’t start my business knowing everything, and I still don’t. But I take it one step at a time, learning and improving with every cake I bake. By focusing on progress, not perfection, I’ve been able to turn my dream into a reality—and I know I’m just getting started.
Advice: Don’t get caught up in trying to be perfect. Set goals, take small steps, and celebrate every win. One day, you’ll look back and realize you’ve achieved more than you ever imagined.
At the end of the day, success isn’t just about skill—it’s about heart, hard work, and staying true to your purpose. 💛
3. Hard Work & Passion
Starting a business isn’t easy, but loving what I do keeps me going. There have been long nights, early mornings, and moments of doubt, but every time I see someone light up after tasting one of my cakes, it reminds me why I do this. Passion fuels me, but perseverance is what keeps me moving forward.
Advice: Find what excites you, and then put in the work. Success doesn’t come overnight, but if you’re willing to stay dedicated, it’ll be worth it.
At the end of the day, Muy Bueno Bakery is more than just cakes—it’s about creating joy, building community, and proving that success comes from taking one step at a time. 💛

What was the most impactful thing your parents did for you?
Growing up, my parents always told me that family is everything. At the time, I didn’t fully get it, especially when they would say, “If one of us is falling behind, we all are.” I’d get frustrated, thinking it wasn’t fair. But now, looking back, I see they were teaching me the importance of working together and always supporting each other, no matter what. That lesson stuck with me, especially when I started Muy Bueno Bakery. From day one, my family jumped on board with the idea. They’ve been there from the start, helping me out in every way they can—whether it’s brainstorming, taste testing, or just offering support when things get tough. They’ve been my guinea pigs, my biggest critics, but also my biggest cheerleaders. No matter the time—whether my parents just got home from work or my sisters just got back from practice—they always show up. And I know, without a doubt, that I can always count on them, just like they can count on me. We’re more than just a team; we are JAMERS—our little squad made up of the initials of each of our names. That’s what family is to me—people who show up, no matter what, and help each other grow.
