Meet Maya Mor

We were lucky to catch up with Maya Mor recently and have shared our conversation below.

Maya, we’re thrilled to have you sharing your thoughts and lessons with our community. So, for folks who are at a stage in their life or career where they are trying to be more resilient, can you share where you get your resilience from?
Growing up overseas, spending most of my life in Ukraine’s capital, Kyiv, there was no shortage of resilience surrounding me. The free country I walked in everyday that was fought for through two major revolutions through my lifetime both in 2004 and 2014 and now a full scale invasion by Russia, Ukraine and Ukrainians have earned the title of resilience time and time again.

Knowing that I have Ukrainian blood in me fills me with such a sense of strength and grounding that I can overcome any challenges thrown my way. The Ukrainian people give me strength everyday and remind me how resilience is the ultimate superpower.

Let’s take a small detour – maybe you can share a bit about yourself before we dive back into some of the other questions we had for you?
I am a singer-songwriter, visual artist and activist for Ukraine. In my upcoming music releases I’m incorporating more Ukrainian language as I feel it represents my sound and who I am as an artist. My music serves a larger purpose – to shine a spotlight on Ukraine, my home country, and to convey the message of freedom and transforming generational trauma into strength through art and culture. I am using my voice to stand on my beliefs and be loud about what my ancestors did not have the freedom of speech to talk about. Ukraine is a thriving, free European nation brimming with exceptional talent and through my artistry, I aim to showcase the beauty, resilience, and creativity that Ukraine embodies!

If you had to pick three qualities that are most important to develop, which three would you say matter most?
Gratitude. Gratitude, is the ultimate driving force, as we cannot operate at our highest frequency when thinking about what we perceive we are lacking. Gratitude places things in perspective and opens our hearts and minds to a world of abundance. We see what we believe and when we are in an ever-growing state of thankfulness we are focusing on the blessings of life and therefore life becomes a blessing. In the hard moments of life, of which there are many, it’s all the more important to remain grateful, as gratitude is your superpower.

Discipline = Freedom. Implementing self discipline is a vital part of creating your reality. I remind myself everyday, the more structured and productive I am, the more it allows my creativity to flow when I’m ready to create. A life of discipline opens up a world of freedom, by working on yourself and your goals you create a life where you are your own boss.

Don’t compromise your morals and integrity, stay true to yourself. Often times, I’ve found, the longer route may be less appealing at first and it will absolutely test your patience, but the reward of creating your own path is ten fold any ‘short cut’ you think you may have found. I believe learning yourself enough to know the deeper reasoning and your “WHY?” is extremely impactful as it will keep you grounded throughout your journey. When challenges come your way, if you’ve done the work on yourself to know your “WHY?” you can allow it to be the guiding light you need to forge your route to success. Asking yourself the difficult and introspective questions is a crucial part of self development which is in my opinion directly intertwined with achieving your goals.

To close, maybe we can chat about your parents and what they did that was particularly impactful for you?
This is such a meaningful question to me, as I feel my parents were and are extremely influential in so many aspects of who I am as a person and where I am today. Growing up in a post Soviet, free and independent Ukraine, my parents made it a priority for me to understand what a luxury freedom is. They ingrained in my spirit a deep sense of gratitude and understanding of what a gift it is to walk on our free Ukraine that our family members before us fought for for generations.

Knowing my history and where I come from is the most impactful thing my parents ever could’ve done for me as I feel it continues to help me learn more about myself and my identity. Who I am as an artist and as a person is deeply rooted and connected with my ancestors fight for a free Ukraine and I will do my best to continue shining a light on Ukraine and all its beauty from its rich history to its bright future.
