We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Maya Yearwood. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Maya below.
Alright, so we’re so thrilled to have Maya with us today – welcome and maybe we can jump right into it with a question about one of your qualities that we most admire. How did you develop your work ethic? Where do you think you get it from?
I get my work ethic from a combination of sources: my immigrant parents and an internal drive. It might sound harsh, but I truly believe that success requires a deep personal desire to achieve something. This is especially true for artists, entrepreneurs, and creatives – we have to be the ones to forge our own paths and relentlessly pursue them. I’ve learned that often, belief in your vision comes after you’ve demonstrated success. So, I strive to balance the gratitude I feel for my family’s unwavering support with the burning desire to build the life I envision for myself.

Thanks, so before we move on maybe you can share a bit more about yourself?
Well, hi everyone! I’m Maya! I’m the founder of Project M Creative and my background is a little unconventional – I’m the daughter of South American immigrants, and while I was raised to pursue a more traditional career, my creative spirit had other plans. After exploring public relations and advertising, I landed in the world of marketing, which truly felt like coming home. My early experience in project management gave me the organizational foundation I needed to build a successful full-funnel marketing approach. Working in both the tech and apparel industries further solidified my vision, and ultimately led me to launch Project M Creative.
What makes Project M Creative special is our focus on the upper funnel. We believe in building a strong brand foundation through impactful experiences, activations, and genuine community building. While we absolutely recognize the importance of digital marketing, we prioritize human connection and meaningful storytelling. We offer a range of services, from brand partnerships and events, to social content creation, PR management, and editorial services. Our human-centered design and strategic thinking help brands cut through the noise and truly stand out.
What I’m most excited about is the incredible community we’ve built at Project M Creative and the brands we’re building where I serve as a Fractional Chief Brand Officer (Mary Louise Cosmetics and Lucky Girl Rosé). I’m so fortunate to collaborate with such talented people who share my passion for creativity and strategic thinking.
And, I have some exciting news! We’re launching Lucky Girl Sparkling wine later this month! Even more exciting, we’re also launching Camp Lucky, powered by Lucky Girl Rosé! Camp Lucky is our vision of a perfect day: imagine pure magic at Bloom Ranch in Acton, CA, surrounded by inspiring women, sipping Lucky Girl Rosé, and gaining game-changing wisdom from female leaders. Join us on March 29th! You can learn more and snag a spot at www.luckygirlrose.com. We can’t wait to see you there!
Looking back, what do you think were the three qualities, skills, or areas of knowledge that were most impactful in your journey? What advice do you have for folks who are early in their journey in terms of how they can best develop or improve on these?
Looking back, three qualities have been absolutely pivotal in my journey: resilience, ingenuity, and a commitment to constant learning. I’ve found that the ability to strategize, adapt to changing circumstances, and understand the nuances of human behavior – what I think of as “human design” – has been crucial. These three areas have allowed me to navigate challenges, find creative solutions, and ultimately, grow and scale.
For those just starting out, my advice centers around developing these same core strengths.
Resilience: The path to success isn’t linear. You will face setbacks. The key is to learn from them, dust yourself off, and keep moving forward. Cultivate resilience by embracing challenges as learning opportunities and practicing self-compassion. Don’t be afraid to fail, but be quick to get back up.
Ingenuity: Don’t be afraid to think outside the box. The most innovative solutions often come from looking at problems from a fresh perspective. Foster ingenuity by constantly asking “what if?” and exploring different approaches. Seek out diverse perspectives and be open to unconventional ideas.
Constant Learning: The world is constantly evolving, and so should you. Never stop learning and growing. Stay curious, read widely, and seek out new experiences. Embrace lifelong learning as a core principle.
And, building on the idea of leadership I mentioned before, remember that as you grow, leading by example is paramount. If you’re asking your team to put in extra effort, be right there beside them, working just as hard. Be willing to roll up your sleeves, work late nights, and tackle any task, regardless of level. Demonstrate a solution-oriented mindset and a willingness to get your hands dirty. This not only builds trust and respect but also fosters a culture of shared effort and dedication. Your team will mirror your own work ethic and commitment.

As we end our chat, is there a book you can leave people with that’s been meaningful to you and your development?
