Hi Mayelin, thanks for sharing your insights with our community today. Part of your success, no doubt, is due to your work ethic and so we’d love if you could open up about where you got your work ethic from?

I got my work ethic from my parents. They worked since they were children and everything they attained was through hard, honest work. I cannot remember a time when they did not show me by example that you have to work for the things you want, but most importantly, that good things take time. I could see that in the evolution of the home I grew up in, the vehicles they drove and the experiences we got to enjoy. All of those things evolved over time as they got promotions or as the family business grew. In particular, growing up with a working mother was a great example for me of women empowerment and growth.

Appreciate the insights and wisdom. Before we dig deeper and ask you about the skills that matter and more, maybe you can tell our readers about yourself?

I have been in the legal field for over 10 years. I first went to law school in my home country, the Dominican Republic, and then I went to law school here in Florida. I previously worked as a civil and commercial litigator (the type of lawyer that goes to court and represents parties in lawsuits). I saw how much time, stress and resources it took to litigate, and the toll it took on my clients. At the end of the day, I realized lawsuits in many cases don’t bring healing or the closure people may believe they do.

It is now my pleasure to help small business owners handle the not so glamorous side of entrepreneurship, the legal stuff, before it becomes a legal problem. Think contracts, business purchases and sales, and all the “is this safe to sign” moments. From the moment you have a business idea, I can help create the company, negotiate a commercial lease, draft contracts for employees or contractors, provide general legal counsel, and even help you sell or buy a business. I’m in your corner for all things business law.

I’ve seen how stressful and expensive lawsuits can be, and I believe they can often be avoided with the right legal planning. What makes my work special is I get to help businesses prevent conflict so they can spend their time and resources growing their businesses, not fighting a lawsuit.

Looking back, what do you think were the three qualities, skills, or areas of knowledge that were most impactful in your journey? What advice do you have for folks who are early in their journey in terms of how they can best develop or improve on these?

Self discovery and introspection, grit, and critical thinking have been pivotal in my journey. Knowing yourself, persevering and questioning your why can be so important in finding your true journey and staying in it.

My advice would be to pause and reflect. So often we do things because they are expected of us, because that is the way something is supposed to be, but everyone’s journey is different and we need to find what aligns with our strengths, our history and passion.

Who is your ideal client or what sort of characteristics would make someone an ideal client for you?

My ideal client is any business owner or entrepreneur who has legal questions and will not rely on the internet alone for answers. Whether it is someone who is about to sign a commercial lease, or needs a non-compete and confidentiality agreement to protect their business or ideas, or someone looking to invest in buying a business or needs to sell theirs, I am here to assist them.
