Meet Mayra Velasquez Tellez

We recently connected with Mayra Velasquez Tellez and have shared our conversation below.

Mayra , thanks so much for taking the time to share your insights and lessons with us today. We’re particularly interested in hearing about how you became such a resilient person. Where do you get your resilience from?

I get my resilience from the little girl that I used to be, the little Mayra who had to grow up way too fast. Being a first generation Mexican American, I learned early on how to show up for others, how to translate hard things into something understandable. and how to hold space even when no one was holding space for me. That shaped the woman I am today!

Every time life throws something heavy my way, even when I feel like giving up or doubt myself, I somehow find the strength to get back up. It’s like I’m being carried by God and held by that little girl inside me. She reminds me why I started, and God reminds me I’m never alone.

I rise every time, not because it’s easy, but because I know nobody else will come to save me! Deep down I know that I was built for more and I’m always striving to give it my best even when I feel the most defeated. As I get up and show up, I’m healing my inner child wounds, and at the end of the day I keep going with love and a purpose!

Let’s take a small detour – maybe you can share a bit about yourself before we dive back into some of the other questions we had for you?

I’m Mayra Velasquez, a proud first-generation Mexican American, mom of three, and the heart behind two soul-led businesses: MT Income Taxes & Bookkeeping and Fluyendo Gratefully.

My journey started young — I was just a little girl translating important documents for my parents, helping them navigate a world they couldn’t fully read or write in. That little Mayra who grew up fast is the same woman today who shows up, no matter what hurdle life throws. I’ve built my businesses from that inner strength — with God in one hand and my younger self in the other.

MT Income Taxes is more than just numbers. I serve immigrants, small business owners, and everyday families with compassion, bilingual support, and transparency. Many of my clients hand me their W-2s with full trust — some without even being able to read them — and I honor that trust deeply. After 14+ years in the tax industry, I’ve helped hundreds of clients grow financially, open businesses, and stay compliant — all while educating them along the way.

Fluyendo Gratefully is my heart work. It’s a bilingual spiritual wellness brand where I offer reiki-infused herbal products, energy healing, sound baths, and sacred rituals that help people reconnect to themselves. I believe healing is for everyone — especially those of us breaking generational cycles.

What makes my work special is that I blend practical tools with spiritual depth. You can come to me for tax strategy or a money magnet tea ritual. You’ll leave feeling seen, guided, and empowered either way.

Right now, I’m expanding both businesses — scaling my tax office to serve more clients nationwide and creating digital products and journals for spiritual healing. I’m also working on a book inspired by my inner child healing journey, planting the seed to open a Latina Wellness Center and planning community events to support women like me who wear many hats. I want to be able to be the next Honest Company, leading with an aligned vision of love and purpose.

My mission is to remind people that it’s possible to thrive, heal, and build wealth — even when you come from struggle.

If you had to pick three qualities that are most important to develop, which three would you say matter most?

Looking back, the three most important qualities and skills that shaped my journey are resilience, emotional intelligence and the hunger to learn. Resilience keeps me going even when life feels overwhelming, but the storm will not last forever. I’ve thought myself as cliche as it sounds to not to take anything personal, we are a reflection of our insecurities or confidence. Continuous learning is a key to my growth, I didn’t have all the answers, and I still don’t always have all the answers, but I’m willing to learn and figure it out.

My advice for anyone walking their journey whether they are the start or have been in this for a few years is to believe in themselves, even when nobody else does. Daily positive affirmations will get you through a hard day even when you don’t believe it yourself, your subconscious is listening. The key here is to keep going and it doesn’t mean to be strong all the time, but it means to be kind to yourself and know that you are in this path for a reason. If you feel that you are doing too much, take a step back and ask yourself, “What I do need right now? and “Does this make me happy?” and honor whatever answer you have. Always stay curious, you go find the answers and don’t stay wondering or asking yourself, ”What if?” Growth doesn’t happen overnight, just don’t give up and lead with a love and a purpose.

How would you spend the next decade if you somehow knew that it was your last?

I’d slow down and really be present, with my children, my family, my community and my inner self. I’d pour more into moments that matter, traveling all over the world, working on being a minimalist, enjoying sitting in silence without a time limit and living a simple but happy life. My life would be the best of many worlds, having double Mexican American nationality, I would take advantage of the time and live for months out of the year in my small town in Michoacan, Mexico, while still staying rooted to my birthplace in sunny Southern California.

I’d still run my businesses but from wherever I am at, but from a place of more softness and alignment. I’d be more focused on leaving a legacy, not just of income, but of healing. I would share with my kids, clients, community and anyone interested everything I know regarding money, resilience and spiritual growth. All I would want is for my loved ones and my circle to keep thriving long after I’m gone.

I would be determined to secure the funding needed to open my Latina Wellness Center, I’d write the book that’s in my heart. record my voice in prayers, mantras and affirmations and create healing tools for women like me. I would live freely without the fear of tomorrow, walking barefoot on this mother earth, spending more time under the stars, talking to God and thanking life even for the hard days.

At the end, I just don’t want to chase the clock nor leave behind success, but love, wisdom, a purpose and freedom!
