Hi Mckenzie, so excited to talk about all sorts of important topics with you today. The first one we want to jump into is about being the only one in the room – for some that’s being the only person of color or the only non-native English speaker or the only non-MBA, etc Can you talk to us about how you have managed to be successful even when you were the only one in the room that looked like you?
One of the biggest things I’ve learned is to just ask. walking up to someone and introducing yourself and connecting can open so many doors. Especially at events Put on that big smile, Be a go getter introduce yourself. If you know some one and you love their work and you want to work with them Just ask worst that can be told is no, And in this industry you’re gonna get told thousands of times no before yes But never let that stop you nor define you. Keep on pushing, keep on doing you.

I’m Kenzie a Model, Actress, Songwriter and Author based in Kansas City Missouri. I primarily Model and Act which is both my passion and dream job. I’m currently Signed to a mother agency here in kansas city but I work in alot of markets nation wide. I’ve done multiple runway shows including Los Angeles Fashion Week RxRunway 2024, Dallas Fort Worth Fashion Week Fire & Ice 2024, STRUT FASHION TOUR Kansas city 2023 I will be doing alot more this fall including Las Vegas Fashion Week with RxRunway, The Model Experience Los Angeles Fashion Week, New York Fashion Week RxRunway, and multiple others! I’ve also been on a scripted episode a Reality TV show, Feature Film, Short Film, Advertisements, Music Videos. I am multi published internationally in magazines. I co wrote a experimental rock album and self published 2 poetry books, a coloring book and a Calander!! I’ve recently been doing alot of editorial shoots and runway shows even securing a brand sponsership deal!! Looking back, what do you think were the three qualities, skills, or areas of knowledge that were most impactful in your journey? What advice do you have for folks who are early in their journey in terms of how they can best develop or improve on these?
Definitely knowing the music industry/scene prior has helped me tremendously with networking and opening doors and tips and tricks withing the industry! I would have to say collab collab collab with your local artists and creatives because you not only can learn your craft better and learn from them but it shows unity and when I rise I bring you with me energy. The final thing is I would have to say is just get out there have fun do your best and network with everyone dress to impress and leave your mark
