Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Mcnast Raps. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
McNast , thank you so much for taking the time to share your lessons learned with us and we’re sure your wisdom will help many. So, one question that comes up often and that we’re hoping you can shed some light on is keeping creativity alive over long stretches – how do you keep your creativity alive?
In my opinion you can’t schedule creativity. Those moments of inspiration happen randomly. To get the most of it and keep the creativity alive; when these moments happen ignore everything else and ride the wave of inspiration.

Appreciate the insights and wisdom. Before we dig deeper and ask you about the skills that matter and more, maybe you can tell our readers about yourself?
I used to freestyle at parties during middle/high school. I mean every day of the weekend for hours on end just constantly freestyle rapping. That evolved into my first real performance at an open mic in 2016 at Bemos Bar, Bay City Michigan. In 2019 my friend Viggy Scot and I started a group by the name of “Melon Maid Ent.” Today Melon Maid consists of Spade Da Don, Yung Flaco, P.J. Washington, Prot3ge, Viggy Scot, and myself. We also have teamed up with JP at Feelin Good Podcast and work very closely with him. Feelin Good & Melon Maid is a huge staple for unity in the community. Be on the lookout for MELONMANIA 2025. There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?
1.) I moved allot as a kid, I was always the new kid at a new school, which made me very outgoing. Making new friends is easy for me, I have no problem putting myself out there to try to get a new fan. To any up and coming artists, go meet new people everyday.
2.) This is gonna sound corny but I believe trauma and pain bring a great deal of soul to the art and when art has soul people feel it. I had a weird childhood don’t get me wrong I know ppl with way worse upbringing’s than me, and those people make better art.
If you don’t have anything to write about you may not have been through anything recently.
3.) Manual labor. My first job when I was 16 was landscaping. That work ethic translates to the rest of your life. Name another rapper in bay city Michigan that will stand on a street corner for 6+ hours handing out flyers for a free show. Put the work in.

If you knew you only had a decade of life left, how would you spend that decade?
I thought I was going to be farther than I am at this point. I think everyone has those feelings eventually. I started making music when I was 15 and I’m 25 now. After a decade of doing live shows, studio sessions, music videos, traveling, networking, promoting, investing, learning, practicing, and above all having fun I’m getting to a point where I need this music to make sense financially. I want to help artists achieve what I so desperately want. My biggest obstacle is most artist biggest obstacle in this area and it’s something that I wish to achieve and help plenty of others to achieve; A livable income through music.
